I messed around with the Havahart 1081 and it seemed pretty well built.     Has anyone else used this trap.  It is a big trap 15x15x42.

Don't know the numbers on mine but here is a pic of it. I have had it so long that I can't remember when I bought it. It is one of the older models that is bullet proof except for the trip pan. I have had to bend it back once after a coon bent it badly.
It is called a coon-size but it is difficult to get bigger coons to go in it due to its size. The best way is to cover the bottom with dirt but we also have many coons dropped off around here from the city or other areas here and they don't want to go back into a trap. I get several chicken eaters in it each year but most of them I have to just run them up a tree real quick and then get the 22. Big old boars like to run so it becomes even more of a challenge but I like it. Keeps me on my toes.

When the money starts flowing again, I want to buy one or two really good cage traps. I would not buy a new havajunk now. I've seen them in the stores and they look like crap. I've heard they are not worth using at all.

One nice thing with these traps though - even as big as it is, it works excellent on grey squirrels if you need to catch them. Just throw some nuts on the ground and set the trap on top of the nuts and Bingo! they go right in it without hesitation.

Normally you will get all the local house cats once. Just hit them with the water hose before you open the cage and they will probably not return. I've never had one go in the trap twice.
