Steelhead on Snoqualmie
«
on:
January 24, 2010, 12:59:07 PM »
I was thinking about scouting out the Snoqualmie river tomorrow morning, around SE David Powell Road and SE fish hatchery road area. The problem is I can't figure out what fork of the river that is and if the special Reg's apply to it.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&source=hp&q=se+david+powell+road&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=SE+David+Powell+Rd,+Fall+City,+King,+Washington+98024&ll=47.557704,-121.88241&spn=0.026471,0.086088&z=14
Middle Fork Snoqualmie from mouth
including upstream and all tributaries
except Pratt and Taylor rivers (852)
All Game Fish Year-round Catch-and-release. Selective gear rules.
from Snoqualmie Falls upstream
including the North and South forks
(852)
TROUT First Sat. in June-Oct. 31 Min size 10". Daily limit 2. Selective gear rules.
Other Game Fish First Sat. in June-Oct. 31 Statewide min. size/daily limit. Selective gear rules.
All Game Fish Nov. 1-May 31 Catch-and-release. Selective gear rules.
Can anyone help me out? I really want to catch some dinner tomorrow.

it's not a fork. it's below the confluence...mainstem. the forks are all above the falls upstream of snoqualmie...like north bend on east from there...

i believe it's open for steelhead, hatchery brats only, single barbless hooks.
more access on the david powell road. hatchery road comes out at tokul creek and there's usually a bunch of dudes fishing that place at the mouth of tokul crk. you can walk downstream from there a ways and leave some of the folks behind.

Thanks Jackelope,
I'll check it out and report back. I am a little worried about all this rain though.

Lots of people casting yesterday. I was busy hiking in the rain and drove by twice. Looked busy. Weekday might be less busy.

Just got back from checking out the river on Powell Rd. Just one guy floating it. So if the weather holds, I'll either go back tonight or tomorrow morning. Any advice for a tackle setup? I've got a 10'6" rod with a baitcaster and 12lb test on it.

the river is really low right now. just started to rise last night though, its running at 2,000cfps.
i would go with float and jig. and mainly focus around tokul creek area. try cable hole, big eddy, and around plum landing launch.

the river is definitely not really low right now. at least not in duvall. not sure if the gauge is off or what but it's not really low. maybe the tolt is blowing it out downstream and it's low in fall city.

I seen a couple guys fly fishing by the old hatchery. They were catching little ones and releasing them. I have thought about going up and tossing a line. Think I might go tomorrow. Anyone laid off like me and wanna go?

Here is a real time data page for our Washington Rivers, Snoqualmie at Carnation is at 2780 cfs.
http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/current/?type=flow
This is a good site to check before you head out to go fishing, you can tell a lot about the river before you even leave your house.

Hey all,
I was thinking about trying the Snoqualmie tomorrow near Tokul Creek area for Steelies. Would you guys even try it after looking at the weather report? It is supposed to rain on Friday (2/5)....
Went out to the Peninsula a month or so ago after the rains came and the rivers were unfishable... major bummer. I am a rookie still learning the ropes in case u can't tell. Also I checked the USGS website for the river and I am not sure what is "high" for a river or what is "fast" for a river... any advice on this?
The two columns in question are:
Dis-
charge,
ft3/s Gage
height,
feet
Thanks,
John G.

i think the river is low enough right now that a little rain that we're supposed to get tomorrow will only help.

Alright, cool... good to know.
If you guys had a choice to either plunk or float fish at Tokul Creek which would you go with? I only have 1 rod right now and it takes me more than a little while to rerig...
