Rangefinders

 Im about to buy my first rifle for under 300 a marlin .308 with scope.  Been searching ebay and i've heard some pretty good things about the bushnell's yardage pro, any one else have any experiences that would help decide whether to buy or not?? thanks, mama mickey

they are a good mid priced rangefinder. i like the one i have but in the last few years i have switched to a higher end range finder. but still use my yardage pro from time to time.

yes thats the general opinion that i've been getting about the yardage pro, its a decent mid rangefinder and will help get the job done, thanks for your opinion, take care

I used the yardage Pro for several years.  It seemed to work good.  Then I upgraded last year to the Leica 1200.  Great rangefinder.  If I were to choose again.  I would go with the Leupold RX1000.  Less money and has many options. Depending if your using for rifle or archery, etc.  I would look at one of those vs. the Yardage Pro.

I have a Lieca 1200. Great little rangefinder. I like the scan capability and that it has red readout instead of the black. Kind of expensive but I got it on a good deal from the Bargain cave at Cabela's.

I use the Bushnell rangefinding binoculars, it is nice not to have two items to carry.  They are not the best by any means but a good compromise for my kind of hunting, mostly archery elk and muzzle deer.

Glad to hear you found a gun that will work for you at a decent price point.

Will those actually range a deer or elk at 500 yds?

For only a little more money than the Bushnell, I'd suggest the Nikon Monarch 800 Rangefinder.  I've used mine for several years and it will range a deer out to 500 yards.

I think it was the 700 yd Leopold version that I had and just sold it recently. Objects out to 350 could be picked up easily. The farther I tried to range past that the steadier I would have to be. They were good but I when I tried out the 1000 yd version the other day it picked up objects out to 600 very easy.

I had a Nikon 800, a Leupold RX-II, and I now have a Leia 1200. Wish I would have saved my money on the two cheaper models, I was quite disappointed with them. The Leica hits alot of targets the other two wouldn't, and the reading is almost instantaneous.

I have the Leupold RX-IV B&C rated for 1500yrds max.  Farthest I've ranged it was right around 1,000yrds last fall.  I bought it on Ebay if I remember a couple years ago for like $375ish.  Real simple to use.

I like Leupold products all around so I suggest them.  You can get the RX-II for an affordable price but at a little lower price I think the Nikon's are ok.
