Copalis here.  Just so you guys know the Rayonier permit fee for Copalis has gone up from $25 to $100 this year.

Wow! What a crock of crap.

I struck out again this year on the draw, at least I'm consistent. I'll just have to hunt harder this fall to make up.

Ok I didn't come outright and say it but I did draw the North Skagit spring bear hunt. I have been reluctant to say anything because I am always afraid I might come home with "tag soup". I guess I'll be a man admit that I will be hunting and hope I can knock one down. Next weekend I am coming up for some more scouting. A couple of summers ago I have traveled into this unit for bear hunting but was unable to connect on anything but a coyote. If someone who knows the area well, wants to waste their time and would enjoy tagging along that's fine by me. Otherwise I am also ok hunting alone as usual.

The reason for my reserved attitude is that I have not tried to hunt bears for the most part in anything but at or around the treeline where it's much easier to see them from a distance. Especially when I can watch the berry patches where all the berries are ripe. Therefore I view this spring bear hunt as more of a challenge because it appears on the maps that most of the land is below the treeline and the situation is much different than what I am accustomed to. However there do seem to be some clear cuts which I can take advantage of and I'll be paying attention to the greens (grass and skunk cabbage).

I have not received any information from the timber company but if they are charging a fee or deposit for the key I plan on paying that. If it is not a deposit but instead a fee I will not put in for this unit again.

I hope you guys all knock down some brutes. Good luck. Let's get on with this thing.

Oh Ok.. Anyone hunting traditional is doing it the hard way,  hell any bow is hard enough!  TBW shoot over at Moses Lake opening weekend is going to hamper my hunting that weekend though!
