What shells do you shoot?
« on: July 14, 2010, 10:02:05 AM »
I have always liked using the Kent Fasteel 3" 1 1/8 oz 2's @ 1560 fps...
What does everyone else use and swear by?

Last season I tried the Hevi Metal 3" 1 1/4 oz 2's @ 1500 fps... I loved 'em just don't like the cost @ $22-$24 a box....

I seem to have better luck with the 1 1/4 ounce loads.  It really doesn't seem to matter much though.  If the birds are 30 yards and in, they're dead.  Beyond that, it is hit and miss no matter what steel shot you are using.  I haven't bought the expensive alternative shot shells, so I can't comment.

I shoot a lot of kents, mostly 3'' 1 1/8 oz. 4's. I also shoot some estate 3'' 1 1/4 oz. BB. I think I might try either kents or estates in 3'' 1 1/4 oz 2's or 3's this year, and alwys take a few BB's with me too

I picked up a case.  I shot 4 rounds at the patterning board.  Patterns as expected but it sure seemed to have a bunch more recoil than I would have expected form a 3".

Anything smaller than 2's and cheaper than $10 a box.  Keep buying the over priced junk and leaving me the economy loads so they have to close them out for $3.99 after the season!
hey, where's Professor Chaos? Anyone seen him?

Jordan that Hevi-Metal is like $16 at Stan's. You got ripped off lol

But I shoot Kent 3" 2's for the most part sometimes 3's. A few boxes of the Hevi-Metal last year too.

I think this season Im going to start shooting Estates as the box I shot last year kicked ass, and it is pretty cheap too.

I picked up a case of the Black Cloud Snowgoose loads.  We will see how it does on Snows.  Shoots like the kent 3-1/2 shells.
Typically shoot Black Cloud, Hevi-Metal or Kent shells.  Shoot BB-#2's
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Kent Fast Steel then Remington in #2 and #4 for ducks abd BB for geese.  I'm going to load my own for this season 3" #4 steel and Bismuth for my 12, and the same for the 10GA.

Black Cloud #4's for Ducks, and Black Cloud BB for geese both 3'' combined with the Black Cloud extended range choke tube. Deadly for sure in my I12 Franchi. Used to shoot Remington Wingmaster HD in 6's with my Patternmaster extended range but it got really expensive. I also definitely noticed that the Black Cloud shot like crap until I got there choke tube.
