Hey NWWA... did you do the field shoot this weekend?
« on: July 18, 2010, 01:43:18 PM »
How'd ya do? Much competition?

I shot here in the Montana "Big Sky State Games"... unfortunately we dont have much of a trad archery group here.... Plus, I shot a 35# bow that I haven't shot in 4 years since my shoulder was screwed up. You would have cleaned my clock... I shot a 249 on 28 targets (14 field, 14 hunter) :dunno: then shot a 370 on 28 animal round today... Pitiful... I know... I still won both days, but there weren't many guys to go against...

How ya do? Did that Sapphire do ok for ya???

We didn't have a tourney this weekend.  Practiced a lot for the upcoming NFAA Nationals (start the 28th).  I have been shooting about an hour a day getting ready.  I shot my outdoor league Wed night,  2 arrows at 15 targets and shot a 166.  There will be some of the best Trad shooters out there at the Nationals,  most shooting recurves (Hoyt and PSE olympic style) barebow and they shoot some pretty impressive scores.  I just want to give them a run with a longbow shooting off the shelf!  I will be dropping my trailer off at the shoot on Thursday so I get a good spot.  Tourney starts on WEd the 28th and runs through Sunday the 1st.  Only complaint I have with that is I miss the opener for bear!  Practicing Thursday I shot 24 arrows at 50, 60 and 70 yards... I scored them all.  I had 23 of 24 arrows count on the 50 yard for a 94 23 of 24 at 60 scored (5,4, or 3) for a 91 and then 20 of the 24 scored at 70 for a 78.  My goal is to beat my personal best which is 329 on a 28 target Field round,  210 on a 14 target animal and 311 on the 28 target hunter round.  Those are my scores from my 2nd ever "field" event which was the Washington State (WSAA) championships.  Good shooting Ernie and hope we get to shoot together sometime.

Excellent, cant wait to hear how you do against those guys... so they'll be shooting there OLY rigs, with no sights is all? Stabilizers and such?

I think with the right bow/arrow combo, maybe something in the 43# range and some 300 grain arrows, I could shoot a pretty dam good score... I might have to get something like that setup for next year....

Thanks and good Luck! :hello:

no sights or stabs allowed but the same OLY bows... I am excited to shoot with them.  That might be a good combo to work up for indoor to.... I am playing with a couple of bows and different weight arrows to be more point on at 20 yards for indoor this winter... Sucks holding at the edge of the bottom of the paper to get the elevation right...

Point on... My best barebow 300 score was like 266 or thereabouts...I had a 33# bow setup with like 700 grain arrows and I was POINT ON.. .It was nice!

Send that riser over and I'll slap a set of 35# limbs on it!  :tung: Also, remember you can run that nock point up pretty darn high and still get great flight...

Matt,  since you have such flexible working hours you should drag my trailer up there for me today!

I might do that after hunting season.... not sure I want to let that bow get away from me for very long though..  :P  My other bows are collecting lots of dust right now!   ;)

Matt,
Drug my trailer up there today.... what a zoo... noticed the black water was semi full.... had dumped it on the way back from Jim Creek on the 4th.... or so I thought.  Dumped water in it before I left there and dumped it at the rest stop.... well it must have only dumped half and clogged.... so spent a few hours at the dump station fixing that.  Got it fixed and was on the way.  All set up just a few trailers down from you,  wanted to make sure I could sleep with al that snoring from your trailer keeping me awake...  :yike:

Its the NFAA Outdoor nationals and its in Darrington, Wa this year.  Its about 80 or so miles for Matt and I,  too far to drive everyday.  Should be a great time!

Good Luck Ren and Matt!! (what are you shooting Matt??)
