Recoil Pad suggestion for 300 RUM.. ?
« on: August 15, 2010, 08:22:45 PM »
Ok guys.. tested the HS precision stock I put on the 700 RUM.. and its awesome.. everything but the "uncle Mik's ultra recoil pad".. as I feared.. this thing was pretty hard. Im used to some abuse but this was a bit rough.. So..

I have a Pacmeyr on two of my other weapons.. I really like them.. but I keep hearing about limb savers and Simms?

Limb Savers are AWSOME.................

I have one (slip on) on all my guns. It reduces the recoil dramatically.

I have a Pachmayr Decelerator and it works great. Never tried a Limbsaver but I think they're about the same as the Pachmayr.

simms are the money :IBCOOL: i use them on alot of my guns. i like the slip o pads because they give me a little extra lenght of pull which is nice because i am a little longer armed and they work great! money well spent. i think i have 5 of them 2 for my guns 2 for my brother and wife and one spare :IBCOOL:

I like the pacmyer the best, soaks up the recoil but not so soft that it gets damaged over time ( I know I shouldn't but it happens) from using the rifle as a trekking pole when climbing.
I know a lot of folks like the HS stocks but IMHO their the worst plastic stocks for transmitting recoil to the shooter.

Put on some extra weight and you won't need the recoil pad...  :P I don't need one on mine!  :EAT:

What is your experience with the slip ons? I think I want a permanent one however, I wonder if those slip on's are just as effective and dont get loose or come off or shift?

interesting you say that about the HS precision stocks.. I think if you get the factory HS recoil pad then yeah.. because mine is tough and it does hurt after just a few shots.

HS stocks are not plastic though.. woven kevlar composite.. aluminum bedding, US military Sniper rifles come standard with them.. so far I love mine.

depends on the fit. they make diffrent sizes. if you get a little bigger one and put it on a smaller butted gun then they do shift around a little and could maybe even fall off. the right sized ones are very good about staying in place and not sliping off.

I have a Pachmayr and a limbsaver, the limbsaver is the better of the two.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I put a Limb saver slip on on my M77, 7mm Rem. Mag. love it. Took all the bite out of this gun.

Do you have to remove your recoil pad then put them on or do they slip over the old one.

the limbsavers are nice, but be warned....an uphill shot and a low eyerelief scope is gonna net you some stitches.

Ok guys.. tested the HS precision stock I put on the 700 RUM..

I seem to remember talking with someone about the Bell & Carlson stocks coming with a Pachmayr decelerator? :P

Look at it on the bright side, when you get the Uncle Mike's pad replaced you can use it to pound nails when you can't find a hammer! lol
