dog vest question
« on: August 15, 2010, 10:02:16 PM »
I just got my dog a neoprene vest(avery boater dog parka) for hunting ducks this year are these things suppose to be snug? it fits my dog pretty tight but I can reach my arm all the way to his neck (if that makes sense) I went by the measurements I took but I thought I would ask people that have used them before I do a little triming on it.

It should be snug.  Think of it like wearing a wetsuit- if it's not snug it's not going to keep the faithful one warm.

like swimming with an extra large t-shirt too. it should be difficult to get the vest zipped up on your dog. You shouldn't be able to get much more than your hand under it and only in a few spots. Take your dog into the store with you. Around here you really shouldn't need one unless you're duck hunting with a GSP.  :chuckle:

biggest problem most people have is their dogs spend way too much time inside and never grow a decent coat.

Thanks it sounds like I got the right size. I got it more more for the flotation than anything else

Maybe I misinterpreted your response.

you should NOT be able to reach your arm up to the dogs neck.

The vest should fit snug.  Get one that is close then cut a V out of the areas that are loose.  Usually in the arms and belly area.  Then use a neoprene glue to adhere the V together.

You need to make sure that it fits real snug.I almost lost my last dog .When he got his vest caught on stick crossing a creek.
