Q? about 382 East Klickitat
« on: August 16, 2010, 08:25:57 AM »
I've never hunted that side of the highway, but I hear story's about some nice Mulies.
I also hear a rumor that the area is leased out to a hunting club (Seattle area) and has no more public land.
I just bought a map for this area last night and was about to go full up the tank and start driving.
Talked to a couple hunters at my work, and they all have story's of hunting that area, but have now retired or just don't have time to hunt any more.

Has anyone hunted 382?

I have hunted 382 for the past 5 years. The thing you will find is that 90+% is privately owned and the ranchers do not take kindly to people steppin' foot on their land. I hunt a private piece and we are surrounded by hunting clubs and private owners who lease out their land (and have a waiting list the size of my.... well, it's big). Good luck if you find some public land but other than that from Goldendale to Bickelton is pretty locked down. Just my  :twocents:

thats the same story I hear at work.

I'm still going to go for a nice drive today. I have the day off, maybe some farmer will feel sorry for me and let me at least take a turkey off his property this fall.

Not many turkey out there. There is more turkey than there is public land. Farmers out there don't feel sorry and allow people to hunt out there. It is the best deer hunting I have done. It's private and if you trespass you will be told to sign hard five copies and told what your court date is. Sorry for the bad news. Public land is out there you just have to find the couple pieces that are out there.

Yep they got it hit on the head! live in 382 and own property as well. there are very very few places that are public around. over in bickelton there is a few walk in with written permission areas. But good luck getting permission :chuckle: a lot of hunting clubs and private land and we don't take kind  to tresspassers like deer slayer said ;)

I have permision to hunt about 6000 acres on the bickleton area but I don't know how to hunt them up there to thick! I've been right on top of them before souting but never a sighting just fresh tracks! I was up there during elk last year 2 inch of snow and seen some nice tracks, also seen where a pack of cougars walked down the road but never seen them!  :bash: I need to go up there and put in some time my buddy does it on horse back says it works pretty good for him

Any bit of public land in 382 is CRAWLING with hunters!  Hunt them benchlegs like you would in Blacktail country!

If you have 6000 acres to hunt get on it. Remember if you are looking prior to mid October you won't see much. The deer migrate in that unit and don't come down till late. When they show up it's like hitting a switch and they show up. Get in area you can see a lot of ground and start glassing and they will start popping out all over in front of you.

Yup.. Nothing there until there's snow on Mt. Adams. Then wait a few days.
