I need new waders for duck hunting...What should i get?
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:33:35 AM »
I've always had the cheep hodgman green or brown neoprene kind and they tend to not last me but one season maybee 2... and they leaked all the damn time... I was kinda thinking of the cordura caked neoprene's that cabellas have... Are the breathable ones  any good? My old hodgmans always got a stick poked in them or the crotch leaks an i got cold... I can spend about 200 for the waders... what are your recommendations?  I'll mostly be hunting the skagit with trips to E WA...  Gota get my new dog on lots of birds..

I try to have two pair of waders, one for early season when it is warm and one for late season when I freeze my balls off. I have never had any problems with the Cabela's waders and actually just got my new pair delivered yesterday. I hunt every weekend and many of our walks are through sage brush and other brush. I had mine for 4 hunting seasons and the thing that started to leak was in the boot because it cracked where the boot creased every time I knelt down. No holes in the waders themselves.

I have the Cabela's SuperMag 1600 waders for one season now and have had no problems at all. I got tired of trying to get by on cheaper, lower quality models. I went through a lot of brush in them this last season and they've shown no signs of wear and tear. They'll definitely keep ya warm on your east side hunts as it was easy for me to work up in a sweat in them here on the wet side.

I'm a big fan of Cabelas Breathables, I'm still wearing a pair from when the first came out.  I've done a little patching because I've worn out the seam in the crotch from walking in them.  I have a pair of regular height and a pair of waist highs.   I like them because they are so light and flexable, easy to hike in, jump in and out of the boat, warm with polarfleece wader pants and you don't spend the day damp from perspiration.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Well the search is over i bout the Winchester Pro-line cordura over rubber chest waders... Its not what i was thinking... I have buddies with the lacross neoprine with stretch armor.... they are like 200+ bucks with in my budget, but these were on sale at holiday sports in burlington for $80 only 20 mor than my cheep hodgmans i've used in the past. I couldn't find the lacross close by and i'm taking off for elk camp  next week so i thought i'd better snap a pair up before they are all gone... i knormally wear fleece sweats and wool socks so we'll se how they worked.... thanks for the info...

I have the Cabelas breathable waders.  They work great.  If your just hunting the west side of the state they work great.  5mm might be required if in a boat or east side.  If your doing a lot of jump shooting or walking go thinner.  I seem to replace mine every year as they get abused.

You've made your decision, but I'm sold on my Cabela's Dry-Plus breathables. Comfortable in mild weather and with the proper fleece inside, you should never get cold in this state.
