ya the 30-06 is the most versatile gun on the planet. I would wager to say that you could kill anything with it and i mean anything.

338 win mag for me.  185gr bullets all the way to 250gr bullets  has been used on every dangerous game animal on the planet and still is not too much overkill for deer and goats. i think 30cal is marginal on dangerous game where they need to stop on the spot.

I could even go with one load too 225 grain Barnes triple shox.

I would also say the 06, I have killed elk and deer and a fair number of yotes with it.

7mm Remington Mag in Browning A-bolt

I'd go with the 30-06 also if I could only afford/have one gun to hunt with.  If it were a stuck in the woods scenario/survival, I'd go with a 12ga. but it all depends on location/situation.

My two cents......

Any of the following in no particular order.... 30-06, 270, or 7mm Mag. Which one? Pick one.
I hunt with a 7mm Mag.

338 win mag hands down. used to be the day i would say 30-06. but with grizz or brown bear,  the 30-06 is marginal for close up saftey. the 30-06 is not a fight stopper. its good when someone is backing you up.. the 338 is not too much for deer or sheep, what the doctor ordered for elk and moose, and made for big bear.. the handload 300 grain 338 win mag bullet will out penetrate in any test media the 300 grain 375hh bullet.. the 6 and a halfs, 7's and 33's penetrate like drill steels.
