Danner boots
« on: September 07, 2010, 09:46:02 PM »
So I have a pair of Danner Men's Vanish Realtree Ap Hd 3" Hunting Boots that I've worn twice. They are a nice, comfortable low-cut boot, almost a heavy duty tennis shoe type of boot, that seems great for hot, early season hunting. Well they're also claimed to be waterproof so I didn't mind taking them out in the wet stuff. The first time wearing them they were great, but it was competely dry out. The second time it had rained the night before so the grass and brush was all wet. After a few minutes my feet were soaked! Now they claim they are waterproof, but they are far from it. With the low top I thought maybe water was getting in from the top, so pulled up the pant leg and found that wasn't the case. Toes to heel, soaked.

Just wrote them about it tonight to see if they have any worthy response or solution. Anyone else have issues with their waterproof boots like this?

never had a pair of danners that didn't leak, I've wore them for work and I've wore them hunting, the last pair I had problems with was a pair
of pronghorns for hunting, they shed the water just fine for the first couple weeks of deer season, elk season rolls around and the second day in the snow they started leaking in the toes and it was down hill from there, sent them over for warranty work and it took them a month to get me a new pair of boots, and I even got the old courtesy call asking me question like if I groom my toe nails and if I lace the boots all the way up and if they fit me properly, sorry Danner never again.

I have wore the same boot for the last 2 seasons now. They have been nicely waterproff but now the lower is coming undone from the upper. The stitch is coming apart were the toe box flexes.  :(

I've had my danners for 3 years and they still don't leak. I wear them every day to work. And I wear them hunting when its raining.

I always liked my Danners as they were comfy and seemed broken in from the first time you put them on, but they were never waterproof for more than a season for me.  Bought a pair of the Meindl Ibex last fall and hunted with them all last year and so far this year are not leaking.  I will say if I've learned one thing in all the years of owning "waterproof" boots, nothing is more of a test for them than thick wet grass.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

A lot of the Danners are now made in China and are no where near the quality that Danner made its reputation with.  I tried a pair of Pronghorns that pretty much were trashed and leaking after a few hikes.  I have a pair of Kestrels that have never leaked but the boot has completely broke down after a couple seasons of use.  I have a pair of Radical GTX hikers that I bought for work and after about 5 months they are completely trashed with the soles splitting and coming off but still water proof.

As far as I'm concerned the only Danner boots that are worth a darn anymore are the ones still made in the USA.  I will buy the others if I find them for a good deal because they are comfortable but just consider them to be throw aways.

I've went through many pairs of Danner boots.  I've never owned a pair that didn't leak after six months.  These have all been top model boots such as the Trophys, Canadians, Predators, and Grouse models.  I tried a pair of Kenetreks when they first came out, and I doubt I will ever switch to any other boot.

Danner does have excellent customer service and will definitely make it right on their top models.  I posted on another thread that I own a pair of Trophys and have had them at least 10 years.  Have had them rebuilt twice and they have never leaked.  I wore the soles off them both times.  The last time was a total rebuild with the only thing not replaced being the leather.

I would love to try some Kenetreks but I am not about to drop $350 on a pair of boots I can't try on first.  Nowhere around here carries them.

Sending in my 20 year old Danner Ft Lewis boots for recrafting this month. I'll basically be getting new boots for 50% off !!!

Super waterproof boots!!! As in standing in 6-8" of water and no leaks. These are the old school boots made in USA and worth every penny ($50 in 1991 from Master Sargeant O'Leary) Wore these boots when I harvested my 6x6 (311) bull from the Blue Mountains in 1992 !!!

I have had my Danners for nine years and the only time my feet have been wet was when my pants got so wet the water ran down my sock and into the shoe.  On the tongue it says Made in Italy.  Those Italians can sure make some comfy boots.  I have worn them fishing a lot and any bank fisherman who is walking on the big rocks knows that can tear shoes up in a hurry.  Mine have been great.
