What a pig!
That just goes to show you what you can get with money............ time and time again. He's gotten the gov. tag the last 3 yrs., must be nice.

Not sure where the money ends up, but if it goes back into wildlife, I think that is pretty generous for him to put up that kind of money year after year. I don't even think he is in Washington, I think he is from Oregon.

How were the proceeds used?

By law, the revenue from a particular species auction and raffle tags must be spent on management of that species. Given that, the expenditures (since July 1999) for deer and elk have been marked for special projects, including a buck mortality study on black-tailed deer, investigations of deer hair loss syndrome, elk augmentations, elk carry-capacity study, and elk calf survival investigations. Expenditures for bighorn sheep, moose, and mountain goats has been primarily for annual surveys for these species (83%), with smaller costs associated with special research projects (8%) and raffle tag marketing (9%).

These money comments are getting really old.
Say it is in the blues, it was after archery season as I gather. There were  likely some folks down there with archery bull tags that didn't get it. They had a chance first.
So what's the deal? The state gets some money, The guides get some money, The guy gets a nice bull. Some of you make it sound like poaching or illegal activity. Geez

Sounds to me like maybe you should find a better paying job so you can donate to a good cause and break the state record every year with fair chase bulls.  :twocents:

There is nothing high fence about the elk in the blues. Get a clue.

oh and buying your hunting license every year is paying for a deer/elk too by the way. Your just not donating as much as the gov tag guys.

Elk farm huh....does seem like there is any fences around there to me.

If someone can afford to buy governors tags more power too them. Would you rather they spend their money on anti-hunting legislation?
More money to the state means more money put into wildlife.

Pay attention now...This is what helps to keep the price of our licenses and tags down. The money from these tags goes directly back to the wildlife of this state. Several archery hunters have had the same opportunity as Mr. Agnew, A raffle tag hunter and an Incentive tag hunter could have also killed this bull. They all could have started hunting 20 days before this bull was killed. If you don't like these Auction tags, then maybe you wouldn't mind paying a lot more for your license? Please let us know...

The governors tags - I have concluded they will never please everyone but they have some merit. I figure someone with that money could easily take it to Alaska, hire a guide, plane and outfit himself quite nicely to tag anything he wants. When considering that fact I don't have a problem if people with that disposable income have a chance at one bull a year. It's not as if they took out the entire herd. Also, there is some truth to the fact that archery elk was recently open in many parts of the state and it is likely that this bull could have been harvested with an over the counter tag by a resident. There is opportunity for the common man. Although not equal - it is there.

Another great bull... Props to the crew that put Mr. Agnew on that bull. Hopefully the state puts every penny of that tag to good use. I really wish everyone would quit giving this guy a hard time. Jackelope pretty much summed it up, these auction/raffle tags have their place in the system. I think the real issue here is that we are all a bit jeleaous and wish we could afford to buy these tags every year, I know that I am.
