I had a good hunt last week during our annual archery mule deer trip to the Methow. The hunt for this buck was more of a spot-and-wait hunt than a stalk although I had to move a couple of times to stay in their direction of travel. I spotted three bucks with three does about 1000 yards away just at daylight, about 06:00, and basically waited for them to move to me. At about 100 yards I lost sight of them behind some trees and wouldn't you know it the next time I saw them they were already above me and out of range. I moved and bumped them, circled and tried to get ahead of them and all six popped out just above me 40 yards. The largest of the bucks, a 3X3 but obviously older than the other two, was shielded by a doe. I had a clear shot at both of the other bucks, both 2X3s and took this deer. He went about 30 yards and bedded, tried to get up once and it was all over but the drag to the truck.
