What to do?
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:05:22 AM »
I could use a little help on this one!  I have a dilemma, I have been invited to go to some private land out of Asotin opening weekend, which I have been bugging my buddy about for a good 6 years now! sounds go right! the down fall is I have also been trying for as long as I've been together with my wife to get her a buck, so he says that she can come too  :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: done we have a plan! not so fast she wont go up there because then my father in-law wont have anyone to hunt with! Which I completely understand, but he is 1 not in the best shape anymore ( used to be a animal ) so it kind of limits the places I can think of to go considering I am the one that they will ask where are we going to go! 2 I have places that I will go into without a second thought because most wont go in and the deer will! being with my wife and the father in-law I will run out of options real fast!
She says to go and she will go with her dad, I just can't seem to bring myself to say ok, I want to be there when she kills her first buck! it would be more exciting that mine I'm sure of it!
I have a couple places I can think of but nothing that I feel real good about if you know what I mean  :dunno:

If you guys and gals have any input/opinions on this matter it would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Jason

Tough one, the father in law don't have ANY other friends or fam that would go with him? I'd explain the situation and just be honest, if u have been waiting as long as u have, 1 year isn't the end of the world, and I know it would be hard for your wife, but just explain that it might not happen again, u have to take advantage of certain opportunities, not to sound mean or selfish but I'm sure the father in law can hunt on his own, he's a big boy now haha, my gramps isn't in all that good of shape but he likes to get out and go to a fav spot and just sit and spot for hours, no need to do anything hard on the body, so in short, I'd say just go! But no wrong or right answer here, good luck!

Time spent with family trumps all others in my honest opinion. There will be more seasons and different opportunities to come. Hunting should never be just about tagging an animal but should be about the enjoyment of life experiences. If your wife tags out on her first without you being there you will never forget it (wish I was there moment) but if she tags out with you being there you will never forget it (Man I'm glad I was there moment). Just my opinion and my  :twocents:.   Family first.

you know if my buddy said to bring the father in-law that would be cool too! ( don't/cant expect that) I go out and try to get permission every year but what my wife/father inlaw/brother in-law don't understand  that I cant always go to a property owner and ask for permission for 4 people :bash: extended family land owners don't like it and I understand all the way  :bash: I wish they would get off the piggy back train sometimes and ask for them selves! Oh well sorry little venting right there  ;)

You can go hunt in the same AREA but don't have to stay together the whole time.  Plan a hunt that allows your father-in-law to drop you off and then pick you up somewhere.  While he's waiting for you he can go on a short hunt or road hunt.  It works well with people that can't get around - they get to go to hunting camp, they are an important part of the plan (you can't do your planned hunt unless they are there to drop off/pick up) and, if they do manage to get one, they can gut it so it cools and you go pack it out for them when you get back from your hunt.

My  :twocents: Go with the wife. I read your post and immediately thought of sons first deer. One of the proudest moments of my life. I would much rather be with a loved one and see them get something. Especially for the first time. Makes for great memories. Just my opinion.

Just talk to your father in law he will understand that you have a speacial oppourtunity to hunt some private property . It would be speacial if you could take your wife into a great area to hunt her first deer . If he understands how important hunting is to you he sould send his blessings , there's alot of time to hunt with him and her together but this may be your only chance at astoin . It dosn't sound to me like your a selfish *censored* that doe's only what he wants this guy should be proud to have you as a son inlaw , plus you hold down a job. :twocents:

Thanks coach I try to be just that! I would hope that he would understand! Hell I have guided him to his last 3 deer I think ( which were bigger than mine  :bash:  :chuckle:)  thanks guys for the opinions :hello: still on the fence but I think I will probably be with the wife deer or no deer, nothing like sitting on a hill opening morning the sun coming up brisk breeze in the face and a beautiful woman next to you loving what your loving!

When in doubt choose family.  I am sure that if the whole story comes out, you will get another chance at Asotin.  Things are funny how they work out that way.

Always choose family.

No brainer here.Family first, period...No way I would  decide any different.Your wifes dad wont be here forever, she would never forgive herself if something happened and she didnt get another hunt with dad, because of another option..I would give anything to hunt with my dad one more time..Never have understood these questions of family or friends... :twocents: goodluck on the choice

ok how old is dad , Is the guy on hid death bed ?. Do they expect you to hunt every waking minute with them? You sound like a good guy and if you for no better lack of terms hunt like an old gesser for the next twenty years you may regret not kicking a little ass while you still could . I'm gonna hunt hard as long as I can , my companoin hunter understands that and sure we still trool some , but he understand that to be consistantly suceessfull you gotta hunt hard . take this oppourtunity to hunt for you every one that cares should understand , that is inless this may be his last season. :twocents:
