Land to hunt
« on: September 30, 2010, 02:28:41 AM »
Not sure if the is the place to post this but here goes.  I spent 7 years living and hunting in Texas.  Down there 90% of the land is private and 10% of it is public.  Therefore if you wanted to hunt you had to lease land to hunt on.  It seems to be just the opposite  in Washington.  With so much public land to hunt there doesn't seem to be a need to lease land to hunt.  So my questions is, Do many land owners lease their property to hunters or is it frowned upon.

By-the-way, I just wanted you to see some of the wildlife I have to deal with at work.  Pitty I can't shoot'um.

In places like Texas, you have all kinds of sites/organizations dedicated to matching hunters with willing landowners, and it works out great. But we don't have anything like that, aside from going with an Outfitter who has an agreement with the landowner/Rancher
Theres plenty of room for all of gods animals.... right next to the mashed potatoes!

I dont really understand "leasing" but if you come out in the pullman colfax area pretty much everyone charges you too hunt these days. The price and details of the hunt vary from farm to farm. Some are as cheap as 50$ but they let as many people hunt as are willing to pay. Then others are $750 but its you and maybe 3 other hunters. There are a few people that dont charge, but it's usually not great hunting.

How does "leasing" work in texas?
I hunt for peace of mind.

There are a few leases on the east side that I know of, but as you said before there is a lot of public land to hunt.  I don't personally see a need for leases with as much land open to hunting, whether it's public or timber company land open to the public, there is more than enough places to hunt.   :twocents:

Thats very interesting. I wouldn't mind something like that if you got to lock down a good piece of land for a few years. Thanks for the info.
I hunt for peace of mind.
