Forum Intro

Hey all, I wanted to introduce myself - I've just been reading posts while I waited to finally get my new pup and a photo up. My name is Chris and this is Willie, my now 13 week old Pudelpointer pup. I'm wanting to start some bird introductions and was wondering if anyone has any good sources for buying quail or chukar to train with anywhere within a reasonable distance of north Seattle? Thanks for any help and you'll surely see me around here and a few other forums as Willie develops.

Welcome to the forum. I can't say much for quail or chukar but what I used with my pup was just your run of the mill pigeons. My uncle is a professional trainer and he said the most important thing is to let them get the taste and feel of feathers in their mouth and to make it fun for them. The type of bird isn't as important until later on.

Welcome to the site
happy gilmore may be able to help with your request
he is the only one up that dirrection I know of.
But I would just stop by Wholesale Sports and grab a pack of wings for the time being.
Its a place to start, but don't let him chew them up, just play a little with the wings.

Hey Chris. Glad you signed up. Old Dog should have some chukar this year. He is a site sponsor and I have bought quite a few from him. Birds north of Seattle are hard to come by. There was a guy in Stanwood that was selling birds last year but I heard he has a hunt club and is not selling birds anymore unless there on his property around Monroe. Trapping feral pigeons is probably your best bet.
Have you got tired of explaining the difference between a labradoodle and a pudelpointer yet?
Lets see a pic of your pup.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was wondering if that was you I saw earlier on here Shannon. I'm learning to gauge who I'm talking to in determining whether or not to explain the Pudelpointer breed....with some folks it just doesn't seem worth the effort.
If I come across any other interesting sources in my bird searches, I'll let you guys know.

Well if you can't find any live birds, find a pheasant wing and tie it to a dummy. That's what I've always used and it always worked great on all my Labs.

Just wondering why you chose a Pudelpointer over other bird dogs like a griffon or drahthaar.
I didn't even know there were any on the west coast.
