If you are hunting w/o decoys, don't be a jerk and take advantage of another hunter's spread by sitting a few hundred yards away and pass shooting birds that are working that spread. I've seen people do this on several occasions up at Welts. One guy was so blatant about it, we had to get up and run him off when he got within 50 yards of us "hiding" in the tall grass.Cheers!SD
Biginner, you should be able to come-up with some decoys........ All you need to do is hunt near SnowDog and wait for him to leave.
At our duck club when I was a kid, we never had any decoys out. And if we did, it was a few that had been left out for the whole season in the exact same spot. However, we never needed them. All of the flooded barley worked WWWAAAAAAYYY better than any old decoy. Can't say I've never jump-shot, or done some pass-shooting, however, sometimes when you're in the "X", you don't need to do anything more than just show up. As the years have gone by, I've ended up being quite the decoy kind of guy. I really enjoy finding which spread works the best and such. But we all evolve! And, I've killed a lot of ducks and geese that come right in to me over decoys, and over no decoys. It can be done. Good luck to you this season!
