Montana Sheep
« on: March 29, 2008, 11:39:39 AM »
Anyone on here going for the OTC sheep permits or quota permits for sheep in Montana.  It seems like someone told me they were going to.

I looked at it and decided against......... logistically there is too much stacked against you, and unless you have a ton  of time to locate a ram and hope that the others don't it = :bdid:

I've looked real close at it and unless you spend at least a week before season, if not more, it doesn't look like you have a chance.
Maybe someday though. At least you can hunt them.

Yeah I've put in for a limited quota tag before, but not the unlimited areas.

270 isn't open for NR and it definately isn't a limited quota unit.  If you are a damn good hunter and good at beating the odds, it might not be a bad deal.  Hunting dates start Sept 15th and lots of them filled quotas in late OCtober, excluding the 500 units anyway.  I was going to ask the question if you could buy those OTC after the draw, but I'm pretty sure you can't because oyu can't put in for the draw or other tags if you try for one. hmmmmmmm  Just wondering because If I nailed a goat tag in one of those units and happen to run into a sheep with a tag in my pocket, life would be good.  DAMN good!

what are you planning....I mean head over for the opener and give her hell until one hits the groun, spend a week, spend as much time as it takes until you get one or it closes.  Just curious.

With 5 points I'm putting in for either 121, 122, or 124. A Montana sheep tag is my ultimate dream tag!  I'll be putting in for goat and moose too.

I have always wanted to try the unlimited areas. I thought if a guy went right before the season and scouted one year then the next he could draw the tag. Who knows, I hear it is a really tough hunt to find the animals.
