How many have seen wolves deer hunting?
« on: October 24, 2010, 02:17:05 PM »
(GMU 335) So opening morning typical drill up at 3:45 am with my 14 yr old son make lunches and hit the beginning of the ridge at 4:45 so we can be sitting on a rock that i like to sit on by 7:30. 150 yards from where we want to be see 5 does in the the draw off to the right. Not quite light enough for the bino's, so i bust those out of my pack and jack a shell in the chamber. Start moving again and jump 2 more does (I'm thinking it's going to be a good day). Finally reach the rock i want to be on look up in the draw see 3 more does, so we watch them for awhile and then all of the sudden the hill side explodes with deer there must have been 10 other deer that we hadn't seen yet on the hill side and as the last doe runs thru the draw 20 yards behind it was a big wolf. It had to be 80-100lbs at least, it almost looked white and then over the top of the ridge comes 3 more diffrent color redish grayish and a little bit smaller :bash: , so they where working those deer, but as the day went on i sat and pondered about my son and seeing these wolves. He's 14 and maybe a buck 20 and he will be soloing some of these canyons and draws on his own in the next year or so. I've been hunting this area since 1984 and not afraid of anything in the woods, but what if my son was by himself and these things where hungry?  >:( Now it was opening morning and i already had an itchy trigger finger, but being the sportsman that i am i could have easily taken 3 out of the 4, but i had my son with me. Now I'm not sure, but when wolves are in the area the woods go dead not some much as a Raven was flying after that the rest of the day. If i hunt this area next year i will be taking matters into my own hands if i see those wolves again. I would also like to mention that my other hunting partner the next day hunted a canyon 5 miles down the road and he saw 2 more wolves and one of them sat and howled in the middle of the draw he was watching, so I'm not sure how many they have released there. I do have pics I'll post them if i can figure out how to zoom in and crop.

4 in Republic.  They were killing a whitie doe along the San Poil.  I have found plenty of wolf tracks in the snow heading into my honey hole.  I haven't seen any sign of them for the past couple of seasons though.  I bet that they have moved West.  They tend not to stay in the same spot.

There have been reports of wolves in that area for several years.  Anxious to see your pics.  What elevation were they seen?

who in the hell would release wolves there wtf, cant have your camp more than 14 days or they [forest service] will take it,wolves population increaseing, poachers, tribal hunting, you cant shoot cougars  or wolves in 335 . than you have hairloss infection. sounds like the deer dont have a chance, dont forget habitat loss ,mismanagement by the forest service, and game department. then you  have  other so called hunters shooting other hunters ,or at night cause they dont know how too hunt.

Not sure if this will work ... First time posting a picture. This is the one i have, my brother has a few more. Top of the ridge... *censored*! I will be practicing the S.S.S. You know I've been reading Wolfbaits post on here for about year and a half and never in a million years would i have to worry about the deer heard in the area i hunt. It makes me feel like the WDFW doesn't want people to hunt, so by releasing wolves they would rather diminish the heard that way then letting us as hunters take them. I mean muledeer herds have been in bad shape for along time why would releasing wolves help? Something just doesn't pass the sniff test. I think our WDFW is all run by greenies or something.

Yes it was. I seen 4 not sure how many animals that they need to take, but for 4 I would say 2 a week (and then there are the ones they take for fun). I'm not sure if the ones my buddy seen the next day 5 miles away, but it seems like its overun with wolves.

What you have a picture of there is the demise of hunting as we know it....

From that picture the posture and shape really screams wolf. I thought I heard some this summer towards ingalls pass, but never saw any evidence. Talked to some elk hunters that claim they saw wolves around the saint hellens area this year. Again just hear say, no evidence.
