Any Success In The Hancock Gates For Anyone
« on: October 26, 2010, 12:24:13 PM »
I have hunted modern firearm season in the hancock buckley gate by the rainier school and only seeing does and yearlings. Two people out of our group took spikes, I also know of a third spike being taken out this last sunday and word of a three point being taken out. I was just curious to what everyone else has seen or what luck others have had in the hancock property

If you are entering from the Buckley gate, you are on the Kapowsin side in the Mashel unit which is 2 point or better, only White River is spike or better. :bash: :bash: :bash:

i have hunted the hancock snoqualmie farm wednesday and yesterday, seen 1 spike and 2 button bucks. i have been limited to walking into a few areas. i did hear of a couple really nice bucks taken up by lake hancock by a couple people who own the cabins up there.

when you enter the buckley gate by the rainier school that property is 653 which is anybuck if you goin into the bridge gate which in known as the central gate or the kapowison gate by the office that is GMU 654 which is two point or better. The maps that hancock provides when you buy the pass also shows that the buckley gate property is GMU 653. So if you still disagree with that you may want to discuss it with hancock. Cause I have been hunting in there for 12 years and it has always been 653. More food for thought I have talked to many game wardens in there and they have also stated it is GMU 653. White river between hancock and wilkeson is what I believes splits the GMUs

This years version of the regs State the White River/ Kapowsin tree farm boundary is also the GMU boundary for 653/654. I'm not sure why Hancock would allow access to the WR tree farm with a Kapowsin permit, I hope you are right, but it sound's odd.

the kapowisin permit allows you to enter the two gates by kapowison the office gate and the bridge gate it also allows you to enter the buckley gate its been like that since hancock took over. I wanna say last year and maybe this year cant remeber off the top of my head but i think you were able to go in a gate in eatonville or north bend not a 100 percent on that one.

Looking at the regs and at the go hunt gmu maps it's the Carbon not the White.

653 White River is North of the Carbon River and Mt Rainier NP.
654 Mashel is South of the Carbon River and West of Mt Rainier NP.

There's also a big red sign on a tree just inside the Buckley gate that says you are in 653 White River GMU.

your right I totally forgot about that. And it is eatonville is the other gate that you can enter when you buy the kapowisin permit

now that we have that figured out, what about updates? pics? stories? besides the muckleshoots killing most of the deer and elk up there, there has to be some success stories, no need to give honey hole details but anything to get some guys' blood pumping and get amped for taking something? my neighbor and his brother took a deer and bear out of there during early archery, no pics but they were on the move and it was nice to see them put some meat in the freezer..

No kidding about the mucks ever since they got access to go through the property to "there" land I really havent seen many animals. Like I said before I have been in there for 12 years now and it wouldnt be uncommon to see at least a dozen animals a day.

We took two spikes out of the Snoqualmie Farm Sunday morning. We were out of there by 1030. Saw a total of 4 spikes total that morning. The deer were literally crawling all over the place Sunday likely because of the weather. The other days which had bluebird weather we saw just a couple does.

I spent all day Friday thru Sunday at Kapowsin.  Saw about 10 does per day and a few spikes and small 2pts.  I made a shot on a large 2pt Saturday Morning, but lost it :bash:.  Spent all day looking and continued Sunday morning.  Sunday afternoon came across this nice 2x3 and decided to take him.

I pulled my map and checked it out. The old Buckley farm, now part of Kapowsin is less than one mile behind the Ranier gate. Hancock needs to update their signage and their policy. It appears a portion of Kapowsin is actually in 653 and Hancock's literature says otherwise.
