8 feet and under
« on: November 05, 2010, 09:38:14 PM »
Spotted this buck from about a mile away.  There were three of them in this batch of tall sage.  I was looking down so could see them.  I closed in, and made it past the sleeping one.  I was targetting the big one in the middle.  Played tag with him for about 15 minutes in the 8 foot sage.  Finally I had one sage between him and I.  I got a bit of movement from his white flank.  I could see his eye looking at me through the sage.  I confirmed with the binos.  Yep, an eye and the base of his antler.  I thought that would be a cool pic.  I slipped the lens off my shoulder.  Slipped it on manual focus, and couldb;t get the shot.  That means he was closer than 8 feet.  He moved off and I spent 15 more minutes trying to get him.  Kicked the sleeping buck, and rousted a 4th that I hadn't seen.

here was the buck I rousted.   I didn't know he was there.  He stood up, I got the camera on him and fired a pic, then he took off and ran by me.  I was on manual focus still, but fired away and tried to capture him.  This was just before he launched.  This is full frame and not cropped.  I'm guessing 15 feet or so.  I walked by this *censored* for 10 minutes and didn't know he was there.  Maybe it was mutual.

Soooooo I guess maybe its 108 bucks becasue I thought this was this last buck I was filming.  Its not the first, its not the bedded and not the one to the left, and apparantly not the one I rousted.  GO FIGURE  Thats funny.   I was trying to get a better angle on the 5 point and was busy taking pics before he left again.  I now don't think this was him.
