Danner redemption!
« on: December 14, 2010, 04:11:52 PM »
So a few months back I posted about my Danners, were supposed to be waterproof and were anything but. Got them last Christmas, put them on once for fit, went in the closet till September. First time out, walked through wet grass and my feet were soaked. Wore them a total of a half dozen times, or so, and the one year mark was approaching (for warranty) so brought them in to the Danner factory in Portland. Is the place to mail in your boots for work, but they're really not equipped to take walk-ins. Regardless, they took them anyway and I had a pleasant experience there.

When they took them in they said I'd get a call about my boots or a new pair would arrive in a few days. After a week passed I wondered where my boots were and hadn't received a call. Off to the post office I went and I had mail.

Since mine were basically new, only worn a handful of times, I was hoping to get a new pair that was actually waterproof. Got in the car and opened the box to find a new box of boots. Opened that up and was like huh? These aren't mine... Checked them out and these are sweet! Not only gave me a new pair, but upgraded me to what I assume is a better pair (looked them up and they're more expensive too). I like these things a lot more, wearing them right now  :chuckle:

Danner earned my business from now on

been wearing danner's all of my life with no problems. Wear Super Rain Forest on the job site and out in the field. If you take care of them you'll have no problems.

Nice! What model boots did they send you?
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I've bought a lot of danner boots and I really liked them but unfortunately I just cannot buy them anymore with the made in china tag. That really irks me.

Here's the thing...most of what you are going to hear in the form of feedback is going to be the absolute worse, or the absolute best.  A lot of the in between (satisfied customers) don't care to take the time to spread the "news", and I'm sure Danner has a lot of "satisfied" customers or they would be out of business.  With that said, I have found that the leather used is certainly a softer leather than other boots, and wears quickly.  After a year or two of hard use, I personally don't see how they could possibly hold up (the Danner Pronghorns).  Mine made it through three weeks in October, and if you saw them you would think they are 5 years old...

This past year I purchased a pair of Lowa hiking boots, and after the same exact type of use (same mountains) they look brand new.  The leather is not scuffed up or gouged at all. :dunno:

Danners (Pronghorns at least) sure have their place though,  they are light and not much break is required.  Just be ready to replace them often if you actually get out there and use them.

there's a lot of truth in the last sentence, I go through at least a pair a year.

they sure are light and comfortable though.

bottom line with Danners is, if they're made in USA, they probably won't leak. If they're made in China, they will within a year or so.

They will leak again.

I have a pair of Ft Lewis that I bought in 1991 and they STILL don't leak.

Some of their boots are still made here. The ones that are specifically say "Made in USA"
