new bow, out the door for $500 , suggestions?
« on: January 08, 2011, 11:55:38 PM »
There are a couple similar threads on here sorry to flood the board.  .  My parker is coming up on seven years old now and is about due for a new string.  I just went to cabelas and the new bows look so cool that i think Im going to buy one.  I need to be out the door at $500, not counting arrows but it would be nice if I could wrap that in too.  I dont need spec's or anything just wondering if there are any models to steer clear of or any in that price range that have good reputations?  Just starting my search so any insight would help.  Thanks Jason

I think one of the new bowtechs is around that price. I think the hoyt rampage is too. Then there's the mission line. Plenty of options

I would suggest going to a pro shop and seeing if they have any 2009 or 2010 bows they are trying to liquidate. The reason i suggest going to a pro shop they will set the bow up "PROPERLY". I have seen way to many people going to cabelas or whole sale sports and the draw lengths are to long, bows way out of tune, and i couldn't believe it but i saw cabelas sell a bow that had a broken limb. Unless you have a press at home and fully capible of tuning your bows you will save yourself a trip and money if you just start out at the pro shop. There is also great deals in the classifieds on www.archerytalk.com/vb

Agree with the previous post regarding looking at 09 or 2010 models.  The new 2011 stuff is coming out and shops will be trying to liquidate old stock.  Last year I picked up a 2010 Quest Hammer by G5 for approx $500.  It included a winners choice string, sight, whisker biscuit, G5 metapeep, and quiver.  So not bad given the whole package.  Its been a great bow.  I would stay away from some of the low end PSE and Bear, just my  :twocents:.  When I tried those vs the G5, there was no comparison.

With all the new stuff getting announced right now(ATA SHow) you'll see tons of slightly used stuff up for sale dirt cheap because everybody's gonna want the newest latest greatest stuff. I'd look for used if you need to be on a tight budget. I think Lowedog has a very slightly used bow in the classifieds for about that money.

Lots of good, new old stock out there. Shop around look at the 09-10 bows. You should do pretty good for around 500.00

Thanks for the insight. I have seen a couple good deals on eBay.  I have bought tons of fishing stuff off there but I'm weary about spending that much on eBay.  A couple were archery shops so that seems more legit. I have to wait until I get my tax return before I can buy so hopefully they will still be closing out last years models

I would recommend looking at Martin bows. I shoot a Martin Jaguar and love it. Its only $300 new for a bare bow. Should be able to get all set up well within your price range. Plus support our local economy, there made in Washington.

Bowtech Assasin... probably the best package deal out there in that price range.

Look into the Martin Pantera.  I have shot them and been very happy with the results.

The other shooters that have given feedback on them have been equally impressed for the cost.

Not sure about the Big C but Wholesale Sports in Fed Way is pretty good.

Depends on where you're at, I saw 2 brand new Equalizer in Sportco for $399 I think.  If the spec of this bow fit your need, give it a try in the shop.
