Anyone ever record their own hunts?
« on: January 15, 2011, 06:23:54 PM »
I have seen videos online of people strapping the "gopro" video camera on their guns, and they look awesome. I had a friend video tape me the other day and I want to be able to do that on my own. Anyone have experience in recording their solo hunts? I need something very light that won't throw off my shot.

Thanks!

They make a pair of sunglasses that have a video camera on them. Maybe a idea for you to look into. I don't know how well they work. Just make sure you don't strap a cam to your bow, and hunt big game with it :chuckle:

I've tried to film some bear hunts by myself but have never put a camera of any kind on my guns.  I've always packed my tripod and camera in to where I'm going to set up and hunt.

wouldnt the recoil from a gun create problems for the camera and the system that holds the camera to the gun?  If Im going to try a rig like that it will be with a cheap gun and camera.

They have all sorts of cameras that you can strap on to different things. They have one that attach to your gun, your hat, you can wear like a head lamp, then you have all the tripod mounted stuff. Do a little search, bet you find more then you thought was there. Some are big money some are pretty cheap, I would bet there are reviews posted for most of them by now as filming outdoor activities of all sorts is a big business anymore.

No, you don't put adhesive on it. I'm gonna probably strap it onto my gun. If its really tight, the recoil is not bad at all for video.

The gopro is very light and small.  That should be a good setup.  The only thing is, if your target is far, you can't zoom in since you mentioned riffle.

Just out of curiosity, if you mount any type of camera on a bow, wouldn't that be illegal?  Camera is an electronic type of a gadget.

I don't hunt with a bow so I am unfamiliar with the laws, but it seems like it could be illegal. You have a good point about rifle hunting with the gopro. Thats alright though. I have a flip camera that would be small and decent for deer hunting and I have people who are willing to film those already.

Thanks!
