30-06 velocities
« on: April 28, 2008, 07:59:05 PM »
Can someone tell me what the velocity is for a 180 grain gamegame from federals factory? I was thinking 2800 fps-2900 fps, but just curious?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 2600 than 2700. The numbers they give are usually a little overly optimistic. Not that a 30-06 can't be loaded up to 2700 or even 2800 fps with a 180 grain bullet, but with the 30-06 especially, the factory loads are kept under pressure due to all the older 30-06 rifles out there.

2600 would be pretty close.  2700 is a little fast.

Federal lists all their 180 gr rounds at 2,700 fps except their high energy 180 gr Nosler Partition which they list at 2,880 fps.
