Thieving Bastages!!!!
« on: June 19, 2007, 12:25:05 AM »
Howdy!
I took girls and my Dad out for the opener of crabbing in marine area 13 (Nisqually) today.  We got out pretty early so or pots could have a good, long soak.  After dumping the gear my kids wanted to run up to see the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge from underneath.  We were gone a little over an hour and a half.  When we got back to check our pots, we were unable to find them.  We looked for 2 hours using the sonar in a grid pattern and checked and double checked every buoy that was near were we dumped them.  While searching, we ran into another boat that was having the same problem as we were.  The long and short, it seems that someone had been pulling pots and taking them.  The WDFW boat was hanging around when we had gotten back from our trip to the bridge but left while we were searching for our gear.  I lost 4 full sets of gear and the other guy lost the same.  What a bunch of B.S.!  My kids have been looking forward to crabbing all winter only to have our gear ripped off before we could get one pull out of them!  It just pisses me off to no end that some pricks have to pull this kind of crap!  My wife was going to buy me 2 new pots and rigging for father’s day and I talked her out of it.  I’m sure glad that I did!  Just be forewarned to stay near your gear when out crabbing!

Dang dude, that sucks.  Do you have to tag your pots like they used to make you do with traps so you can identify them as yours?  Well, I hope she gets those new ones for you now.  Man I hate that sort of thing.

This is BS, I'm making some phone calls before we head out on the 30th.... If DFW can't get it done, someone else will.

Thanks guys!  D- My wife called our friend at the WDFW and got the ball rolling.  They were going to send a couple of officers that were out there to come and talk with me but we had already left and ran the boat to my parents place on Totten.  I gave my wife the desription of a suspect boat to give to the WDFW.  The other boat who had his gear stolen suspects the same boat as well.  I know that this is a real low priority so I dont expect much to come of it.  At first I thought that the pots might have slipped off of the ledge into deeper water due to the heavy current but they were weighted down with several lbs of lead and had over twice the water depth in line.  One pot was in 90' of water with a 200' line.  I really doubt that it just slipped away.  Oh well, I guess that this is a good learning lesson.  I am not ever leaving my gear unattended again!

The boat I remember that boat that I believe took our stuff was around a 20' aluminum with little to no paint and a center console type set up. They were loaded down with a ton of traps, more than they were allowed for the three people on board.

Jackelope, pull yourself together man!! Stop speaking in tongues, where is "here"?? That be in Wa.. somewhere I assume? We just so happened to be talking about crabbing in area 13, if you didn't notice  :dunno:

I would hope you would see more law enforcement around area 13, if not, Bess may have to make an appearance soon.

  :guns: :guns: :guns: :guns:

I'll be out on the 30th...

dude...i was trying to figure out where i'd have to be on the 30th and why. "here" is MA 9 where i crab and fish the sound at. it opens up on july 4th. in your secret squirrel method of making a statement, i couldn't figure out where i needed to be on the 30th and why. MA 13 is open now, right? so why are we waiting till the 30th?  i didn't realize you were talking about 13 because you didn't say you were talking about 13. you just said you were gonna make a phone call and mysteriously fix everything somehow. i feel like if i go out to  13 on the 30th, i might have a chance to meet the sopranos or something. you got Tony lined up for a hit or something?

You don't have to wait on my account, I will be there on the 30th as I mentioned in the other recent crabbing post. I'm glad to meet anyone from Huntwa, but I'll understand if your a north ender only..
The Soprano's just might visit anyone messing with my pots, if the law doesn't turn it up a notch soon...   8)

Speaking of crooks... they just carted away one of my neighbors. There was also a meat wagon that carted someone away... They'd be on a roll if they just took one more of my neighbors :D
