Lets think for a bit, if we want guns, we want something that we can readily find parts and ammo for...

#1. AR short barreled, CQB Rifle (don't need all the crazy "cool" stuff though)

#2. Remington 700 "VARMINT" Rifle, Heavy Barrel  .308 caliber

#3. .22 LR Heavy Barrel, Bolt Rifle, most accurate you can afford

We're talking a survival situation, so we want ammo as available as possible, FOR THE LONG TERM. None of this 2 or 3 year *censored*....think more in the term of 10 years, or longer.

If the Remington 700 is tough enough for the Marine and Army Snipers.....NUFF SAID.    why even debate it?

Why the .22 bolt?  Easier to silence....and it may be your primary rifle. 10,000 rounds WON'T be enough.

Ak's and all thier versions might be common, but I'll bet the 'ol AR is just about as common too, if not more so. Anybody seen the pictures of somebody shooting varmints with an AK???  I've only seen one....how many are smart enough to know what that means? Parts??? Upgrades???

Actually the invasion is coming in on the southern border. It is a silent and non hostile invasion per say.

SimpleShooter308, nope.....no current sniper rifles using ANY winchester stuff....neither the FN, nor the Kimber. All current bolt-action sniper rifles that are being used by the US military are Remington 700 based. Either a long action, or a short action.

They haven't used the Winny since Vietnam. XM110 has a following, as does the M-21 (previous M-14), and a few others.

Craig, love them AR's, think I'd get one more magpul stock...they are the bomb.

I have lots and lots of guns.  But when the *censored* hits the fan, whatever guns I don't have but decide I need, I can get with the guns I do have...

Since I roll my own, I stockpile components, not ammo.  Once I get to my cabin, my ample supplies should keep me there in good health pretty much as long as I need to be there.

One thing, at that point, all my subsistence hunting would be done with my .223 bolt, and all my insurgent hunting would be done with my .260 Rem.  Hit and run....

And invasion or not, I don't go many places without my favorite .40 cal pistol anymore anyway.

If this were to really happen, how long do you think loaded ammo would really be available, in any caliber.... :o

Keep yer powder dry...Jeff

I've taken the word of a gentleman I consider to be a very reliable source and he quotes observation that at any one time, there is about a 100 year supply of guns in the United States... and only about a 2 year supply of ammo.  To further emphasize that perspective, I have noticed that price sensitivity in raw materials (namely brass, copper, etc) usually drives up the cost of ammo more than firearms, at least on a % basis.

Stock up on ammo.. buy the guns later, if necessary. Just my  :twocents:

Oh yeah.... pray that it never happens, thank God for the Constitution, etc. etc.
