Not totally sure if it is safe on guns but I use fingernail polish remover and that seems to work well

I've used WD40 on glue residue before (not on a gun though) and it's worked for me
This worked for me and it didn't stip the stock or barrel of finish.  I would go this route.  A little easier on the gun.

Remington Action Blaster. Basically brake clean. Spray it into a clean rag, so it doesn't evaporate as quick, and rub it off.

No experience with Goo Off.

I've used goof off many times for many things. I know it will take the tape glue off without a problem but I would like to caution you that it may also take off some of the finish on a wood stock. It really is some powerful stuff.

Park out at the street and leave it laying on the front street until it gets stolen? Buy a new one with the insurance cash?

Acetone will take just about any kind of residue off, though might soften any varnish on a stock if left on too long.

Goof Off = naptha in an expensive can. Just buy naptha from the paint/hardware store, should work real well for getting tape goop off.

With I had known that, I have a can of Naptha in the garage and did not even think about using it  :bash:

Another name for naptha is Zippo lighter fluid :P Rasbo it should work real well for getting tape goo off and not hurt the wood.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Rasbo

try Methylethyl Keytone aka MEK,

should be able to get it at a hardware or marine supply store.

that stuff disolves most ashesives.... its an industrial enamal/laquer/resin reducer..... when i was building boats we used to cover molds with tin foil held in place by a spray glue similar to the adhesive used in duct tape.... when i had to clean the molds, MEK worked like a charm... just wear a respirator and gloves. they call it cancer-in-a-can for a reason.

we taped our guns once and used acetone(aka the key ingrediant in finger nail polish removal).... but that was for a week-long period
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright

Orange Peel adhesive remover works great, it's made for removing sticker and tape residue.

 :yeah:

Try an orange based adhesive remover before trying something thats a harsh solvent based product. I sell all of these products, there are certain finishes and varnishes that the stronger solvents will eat through in an instant. The orange adhesive remover is a mild yet effective product. It would be wise to start there rather than take a chance with your stock or barrel finish. As already mentioned, fire up the hairdryer to loosen it up. Better safe than sorry. You will most likely hurt the finish with MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) but that just gives you an excuse to refinish and make it look bada$$
