Biggest WA bear by weight and length

This was our biggest bear ever, taken when we could still run dogs. Where you see the picture is where the bear hit the ground, we rolled him over, took photos, and butchered him on the spot. We estimated 550 pounds, his hide was almost 8 feet long, guy shot him with a 41 magnum pistol, he had killed a couple smaller bear with me before, but it wasn't enough gun for this big bear and so it wasn't a real clean kill, took more than one shot.

We boned him out and it was still all that 4 of us could do to pack him all out for over a mile. This bear was #7 in sci with a pistol, not sure if it still has that rank. It was mounted on a large grizzly form that was modified to make it look like a black bear.

This bear did not have a huge skull considering how heavy he was, we get some good colors but our area doesn't produce the largest skulls. One of my hunting buddies has a B&C 21", and that is the biggest skull I know of from NE Washington.

I got a lifesize in to do this year , the hide was 8'3" nose to base of tail and 7'9" toe to toe. Approximate weight was 480 if I remember right. Weighed the quarters and the hide was another 100 pounds. Gona take a grizz form for this one

 My son with his first bear last year. 6'6" and over 300 lbs. And you just can't take the goofy 12 yr old out of the hunter.

A bear is way up there on PathfinderJR's list right now.  Depending on what happens with the draws this year, I think he and I are going to make a serious run at getting him a bear this fall.  Usually September gets devoted to my archery elk camp so bear hunting gets kind of neglected.
 
 I'll show him this picture, that will cement our this year motivation I think.

i wish i could post the picture of the bear my cousin killed off of my bait back in the day before it was illegal, i couldnt hunt that day because my wonderful daughter was being born so my cousin decided to hunt my sight that night, and bang the biggest washington blackbear i have ever seen it weighed in at 556 pounds dont remember what the skull was, but it was a big ole boar and he killed it about 2 minutes out of orting, is there a way to post a picture of a poloroid ?

alot of people put weight of bear to size of skull..I know of 2 bears that were 300 lbs with 21" skulls and the state record was maybe 400..closer to 375. My dad killed one around 500 lbs and the skull was 19 5/8"

Just turned 12.  He took Hunter Ed when he was 8.  Has harvested 3 deer, a turkey, and various small game, but no bear yet.  Cool thing about kids is that you can put them in for almost every category in the draws (someday he'll thank me for building him points in the sheep, goat, moose, and quality deer and elk categories...), so he's in for all kinds of stuff this year.
Like I said, we'll see how the draws work out before we make any plans, but if he doesn't draw anything cool, we'll be making some serious bear-hunting plans...

Here's a big one my dad killed back in 83 or 84 I think. It's a Gig Harbor bear. He killed it less than a mile from our first house (back before Gig Harbor became infested with people and was known for big bears) This is the only pic he has of it. The skull was is over 19, I don't remember the exact. I'm not sure about the weight I'll have to ask him. He had it rugged and had it hung for ten years or so. When he built his second house, it was boxed up and mice got to it. Ended up giving it to a guy who hung it in his cabin in Teanaway. Last I heard pack rats got to it and chewed it all up. You can guess who the little bad a** is wearing the coon skin hat in the picture
