.54 Cal Hunters - where do you buy projectiles?
« on: June 14, 2011, 11:45:55 AM »
It seems every year the choices for my .54 are getting worse... any suggestions for a catalog or website that gives good sabot/copper combos for the .54?

Mine only shoots .520 round balls, I have to order them from trackofthewolf.com.  They should have whatever you are looking for.

Are sabots legal now ? I haven't muzzleloaded in 20 years, so I'm way behind on the up and up. I have a T/C .54 Grey Hawk if that tells you anything.... What's it worth ? Perfect condition.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Yes sabots are legal now. I belive the Grey Hawk has a 1:48 twist rate. Should shoot sabots ok but would probrably handle conicals better.   :twocents:

I would suggest just about any good .452 bullet (45 cal) and an MMP Sabot. Just buy a box of reloading bullets that you might look and order some .451-.452/54 cal sabots...

If it were me I would get some Speer .452-300 grain Deep Curls and the correct sabot.

Or here are the Harvester Bullets...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Cabelas in Lacey had nothing a month ago. I found some at Skagit Arms next to Holiday Sports in Burlington. I shoot a 50 but bought a used 54 for my son. Sportsman Outfitters in Burlington had nothing.

I should clarify - I do order them online, not purchasing at the store.

You may want to check out auctionarms.com.  You won't find a killer deal every day but on occasion you can save big compared to paying retail.  I recently picked up 100 T/C Maxi-balls (430 gr) for under $30 and that included shipping.
