Hey Guys and Gals,

77 days to go (for me). I'm getting a late start on it this year but it's definitely time to start getting into shape for elk hunting. Those ridges and canyons seem to get bigger each year and I learned that to consistently get into the elk you've got to go where the elk go, which is typically where most people won't because it's too far, too steep, and too much of a pack out if/ when you get one. The years I've been in great shape typically are the years I get into the most elk. My thought in starting this topic is to create a running board to post the work outs we do each day ywe do them in preparation for going after the big one. I suppose it could be a dumb idea, but I know I'm always more motivated when I'm telling "someone" what my workout for the day was (since I don't have a workout partner), how much progress I've made, and how far I have to go. Plus it's good to get some encouragement as well. Call it accountability if you will. I'll start it off-

Day 1 with 77 to go. Focusing on getting in ridge climbing shape. Ht 6'3, Wt 250. Up and 2 flights of stairs with 20-25 lbs 25 times- 30-60 second break in between. 30-40 minutes of full court basketball.  2x20 pushups. It's not a lot but I was dead at the end. I guess it's not how you start but how you finish. No arrows shot today. Be back tomorrow. We get enough people to do this and I think it will be a good thing. See you on the ridges.

I been getting in shape for the past 3 months lost about 35 lbs so far.  ran 3 miles today, hit the weights for 45 mins, 150 situps and 150 pushups...
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Sounds like you're miles ahead of me. Shouldn't take too long to get it back though. I'm hoping to drop about 25 between now and September

After I found out I drew I put myself on a diet.  Hope to start walking wednesday night.  Then hit it harder the next week.  I may and hope that I have to pack out four bulls in the toutle in November.

I didn't draw anything and I put in for everything possible. Gonna have to work that much harder I guess. That's why I gotta start getting into prime condition so I can get away from everyone else. Congrat's on the tag though.

6'3" 235lbs torn left knee meniscus, lower back has been out since this happened about 5 weeks ago and I'll be starting my diet on Wed. On e the knee is good to put some weight on it, I'll start loading the frame pack with some weight and start hitting the hills, wish me luck!

luckily im 5'10 150, i smoke but still have pretty good lungs cuz im only 27. my focus this year is based on becoming as accurate as possible. so im shooting about 200 arrows about every other night and once a week im shooting about 400-600 hundred or untill my arm feels like its gonna fall off.i spent ruffly six hours at the range today including doing the walk thru. i spend alot of time shooting 30 yards "so i dont miss" holding my bow back as long as i can till i start shaking spastically. but every week im able to hold my bow back a little longer.
they call me the bloodhound cause i can track a wounded animal in the rain for 2 days when all it has is a splinter.. sniff sniff awooo

Thats quite a few arrows for one day. You might be creating bad habits if you get too tired. I shoot a dozen or 2 each night and it works well for me.
Aim small, miss small.

6 miles on the bike, 3 sets of upper body weights, 2.5 miles on the treadmill at 6% elevation. I do this about 4-5 days a week.

Planning stages of my Alaska moose hunting this coming fall started about a year ago.  At the time I was 6'3'', 245.  I'll be 35 in October, also drew a cow tag for the Umtanum, and am now 6'3'', 190.  Best shape of my life.  Used a workout called the '3-2-1- to whoop myself into shape, now I'm focusing on incline hikes with weighted packs 3 days a week, weightlifting 3 days a week.  Bring on the moose and elk!

Man, 6'3" and 190? Lose any more and you won't need camouflage, you'll be invisible!
