Finally!! 4th of July coyote
« on: July 06, 2011, 10:52:33 AM »
Well after about a year, and multiple stands, it all finally came together. I decided to try a spot that i hadnt hunted coyote before, only turkey. I left my cabin on the quad at about 6:15 p.m. and was all set up by 7 o'clock. The spot looked good to me, even though i dont really know what to look for besides knowing that coyotes are in the area. Wind was in my favor, had a good view of everything around me, so i sat for about 5 minutes before doing any calling so i could let things settle down. After about 7-8 minutes of distress calls, a coyote came running over the hill about 300 yards away. It stopped and looked,. then took off running again towards me, it disappeared in the trees so that gave me time to get all set up, shew popped out of the trees about 150 yards still running, as soon as she got broadside i stopped her and bang....i missed! So she kinda trotted a little ways, and i stopped her again, this time i anchored her. She dropped, and started biting and snarling, then she let off a few whines, and that was it...i finally called in, and killed my first coyote! She was about a 25lbs female, shot her with my ruger .243win
