Todays humpy report

Fished near shipwreck and humpy hollow this morning. One big take down, one hungry seal. The end.

My reports (that date back to the early 90s) show that it will be another 1 or 2 before it starts getting good. You may get a good day before than if a slug of them move in.
Don't spend your last day on earth saying "I wish I would have"

Pinks are hitting hard off San Juan.  Landed eight, tossed a tiny one, hooked at least ten others that popped the hook right after the bite to next to the boat.  Anyone have problems with coho killers staying in the fish's mouth?  Also used full-size pink hoochies and mini hoochies.  Caught fish from 41 to 75 feet on the downriggers and 60' out on a large size dive plane.

At one point we lost four fish in about five minutes on new hooks, not sure what was up with that.

Knocked the fish finder transducer off on a stick or something on the way there so we had to fish blind.  Caught the first one within five minutes of the start of fishing.  My boy landed the big one for the day, eight pounds.  Got to see orcas and three of another type of whale.

Had some grilled for dinner and firing up the smoker in the morning.

lokidog those look like they are in really nice shape!

We had similar issues in the past with popping pinks off, slow down the boat as much as possible (as long as it doesn't produce less fish) and use a more forgiving rod, if you have your choice of those the rod makes the bigger difference. Since they always go bonkers right next to the boat that is where that lighter rod will really shine, troll with an old steelhead rod if you have one that will take it and you will lose a lot less fish, keep the drag light in case you get whacked by something bigger  :chuckle: :chuckle: so you don't bust the rod!
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Fished near shipwreck and humpy hollow this morning, first take down ran out 100 feet or so, line went slack.  2nd take down, same thing except I got a very delicious looking king  (all fins intact) along side the boat, released.

The end.

Skagit is slow ... plus the limit is 3 salmon .. 3 sockeye which forget about now - 3 silvers or 2 silvers and 1 humpy ...lets let a record run of sockeye run up the skagit and then open it once they are all gone ...sounds like the best thing to do HUH ?  :bash: :bash:  Cant wait for silvers and kings but I do need those humpy eggs ...just catch the crap out of kings on them ... :yeah:

Ahhh, eggs, I wish I can have someone give me a BC steel spoon for each skein of eggs I pull from my fish... I end up never using them, but give them away well prepaired in the jar... :bash:

i dont use the eggs i just give them away to people who fish the rivers. i dont river fish, i catch all my salmon in the bay.  then i start hunting by the time they are running up river so im busy playin in the woods anyway.
