I would say on most years it's pretty good around 3rd week of August but it might take until mid-September this year before it gets real good. The west side tends to be better than the east in my experience. More berries for the bears to eat. Not that you can't find the bear or berries farther east, I just think there is a higher concentration closer to Ross Lake. Keep your eyes open for grizz, and don't shoot one if you want the Pasayten to stay open for bear hunting!

Yes, biggest hassle is getting them out of there before spoilage. Are you willing to cut your trip SHORT.
