Nooksack, Margaret, toutle and left the 4th blank. Sure would be nice to shoot a 350" bull this year but I suppose that would be asking for too much.

I only had two choices, Margaret and Toutle bull. Normally I would've put in for a couple of cow permits as 3rd and 4th choices, but being that I plan on having a freezer full of elk meat from my Oregon elk hunt in August, I really didn't want to go on another cow elk hunt in this state. Just don't have enough freezer space. But I figured if I got a Margaret or Toutle bull tag, it would be worth buying another freezer.

Are there really any 350 bulls in the Margaret or Toutle?

NO!
Every year I hear guys talking about seeing a 350" bull in the toutle or margaret. But haven't seen any to the tape to hit that mark. Until you watch a bull, guess his score, shoot him or watch him shot and then put a tape to it, your pretty much full of *censored* as far as field judging/scoring on the hoof a bull. A 300" bull looks real big on the hoof, and 330" looks huge. I've been in on kills of some real nice bulls and killed a handfull myself and I still over judge by 10-15".

When I had my Toutle tag a couple of years ago I saw a giant bull in the Margaret. It was only about 150 yards off of the 3000 rd. I can't say for sure that it was a 350 bull but it was well over 300. It was seven on both sides, long tines and very good mass. It was by far the biggest bull I saw in two weeks of hunting up there.

webfoot ~ if you're question about 350 bulls being in the Margaret or Toutle was in regards to my earlier post I'll explain a little. The short answer is no. A guy is doing very well if he shoots a 280. There's a few big guys running around but not many, probably not that big, and that's not what usually gets shot. Mostly small 4's and 5's. I'd need to draw my first choice for a 350 but even with that I'd be tempted to settle for something slightly smaller or one that looks good but maybe doesn't score as well come trigger time. I don't think most people would have that option but come September I know most of the bulls in there pretty well and if it's anything like years in the past I think I could find me one.

My buddy shot a bull 4 years ago that i would score as huge. It was shot in the lewis river unit near the toutle unit. It is a 7X8 and the thing has soem mass to it. First time i saw it i guessed 330 and it tappes at 288, it is the largest i have seen in SW WA.bigger than anything i have seen in the toutle or margaret units. Sure there are toads in each unit but i think the genes are lacking in toutkle and margaret.
