I'd take one and then two more as they started to fly off.

Whats so unethical about that  :dunno:

To me there is no difference between taking a duck on the water and a deer or elk in it's bed.

some people would say jump shooting in general is unethical...I dont, I would sneek up on em and wait for the flush then take a shot in the air. More sporting and it is more of a lethal shot, they can get pretty armoured when sitting

Who says jump shooting is unethical? Personally I don't think there is anything quite like that adrenaline rush u get from flushing 5 or 6 mallards that did not know were there, and have to keep it in control enough to pick the drake and make a good shot... I say flush em and kill 3 drakes

The first 2 ducks I shot I snuck up on, flushed them up, and shot the 2 drakes out of the group. What an adreniline rush and I don't see anything wrong with it even if they still sat in that slough they were in. I have shot two ducks off the water (one wounded) and it killed them instantly. Not even using special shells just normal kent ammo. :dunno:

No one I know would say jump shooting is unethical.  Unless your a non hunter.  Thats a crazy statement.  Sleucing them on the water is frowned upon by most.  Jump shooting is a tradition to its own.  Walking small creeks and ditches shooting ducks on the wing, "flying" for those that don't get that.  Flock shooting and pounding them on the water is frowned upon.  Exception to the rule is retrieving a crippled bird.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I agree with h2ofowlr. Jump shooting is still shooting in the air and ethical. Sleucing is not, in my opinion. I wouldn't do it.

Agree with Rory. The follow up to the question is posed in a fashion which may cause a bit of grief.

that's what I was thinking I don't take shots at deer and elk on the run why would I shoot at ducks on the fly.  I'm so confused.

They aren’t close enough together.  I’d throw some bread crumbs out there to get them grouped up before opening up on them.

I didn't know this site was a place where we came to audition for the opportunity to hunt with one another, :dunno: but OK, I'll bite.

I would jump them up and then try and shoot three of them with the three shots I have loaded in my shotgun, wouldn't care what flavor they were, hen or drake as long as it was legal.  I would then enjoy the hell out of watching my choco lab retrieve them.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I think of it more as shooting a deer in the ass than bedding down :twocents:

It will kill the bird and it's perfectly legal to take the shot but I've seen a lot of birds suffer or dive and never found after shooting them that way. Their vitals are under water, their wings are tucked in, and more often than not most people hit low when they take the shot and the bird doesn't get hit with many bb's.

I'm with Goldtip. I'd help flush, shoot, and sit back and watch the dog work.
