Fishing At Lake Cushman
« on: September 02, 2011, 12:15:53 PM »
I went with the family for a day trip up to Lake Cushman for a picnic and some swimming and cliff jumping. Just wondering if anyone has done well bank fishin or i do have a row boat if there is a spot to get it to the water. Saw the end of the lake has lots of rock formations and stumps in the water. Bass ? I may be headed out there saturday to try it out.

Also , it appears the forest road 24 goes from lake cushman all the way over to hamma hamma area. anyone know if the road is open all the way through?

I have not heard of any bass in Cushman  :dunno:, but I do not claim to know it all  :tung:. There is good trout fishing and salmon as well with boat and down riggers (usually in July I think). You can catch trout form the shore, we used to up at the north end. Great lake pretty cold awesome surroundings, have a blast. By the way if you get up there early AM there used to  be some decent grouse hunting around as well.

We used to have good luck at the lower lake right at the end of the floating dock fishing for kokanees . Dropping power bait to the bottom was the trick .They were 8-10" good eating though. There was also good trout fishing close to the end of the lake trolling wedding ring with flasher blades ....
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?

There are some monster cutthroat in Cushman.  We use to catch them at the upper end of the lake with yellow or brown roostertails.

i've heard the park isn't open to launch boats any more?  i haven't been up there in a while, but would be a bummer if its true.

i caught a 13lb dolly where the river runs in at staircase about 12 years ago.  there are some monster rainbows in there as well.

Rd 24 is open and passable with 2 wheel drive.
Cushman has a good supply of Kokanee, if you get lucky they will be near the upper bridge. Usually you have to downrig for them. You can also catch trout from shore, but the lake has steep drop offs so you only get the fish cruising the drops. The dock at the resort use to produce allot of fish as well.

if anyone is headed out on road 24 though it is washed out big time and un passable about 3 miles past where you go under the power lines.
