called in an animal..not sure what
« on: September 05, 2011, 08:45:23 AM »
went out scoutin for deer and elk yesterday and first thing in the moring i was on a landing fairly well hidden in a root wad and i could hear 2 animals messin around in the brush about 150 yds apart..one on my left and one on my right....they both sounded big and coming towards me...the one on the left stop makin noise but the one on the right kept on goin...i thought it was a bear tearin up some brush possibly so i had my cow call and thought id try to call him in...i make a few chirps and it made a "huff"..it was kind of like snort/huff combo...not sure how else to explain it...never heard the sound before...but everytime id call this animal would make this sound....then i heard what sounded like horns raking a tree..or maybe a bear tearin bark?....now im thinking a bull might be down there....so after an hour of this i slowly made my way over to the end of landing to peek over since it was hung up just over the edge and theres nothing there that i can see...so my cuz stand up on a stump and we hear a big crack from a branch and somthing run off for about 5 seconds and everything went silent...still no clue what it was....u guys think it was a bull or a bear that came in?...would a bull make this sound...ive been barked by one but just never heard one make a sound like this...i dont have to much expierence with bears so thats why im askin

The description sounds more like a buck deer "wheeze-grunt".
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Could have been an elk. They do make different noises. I herd a range cow ended up being a bull elk.

Ever see any of those pigs that are suppose to be over there?  Bulls will cough when excited and a younger bull is near.  First time I heard that I thought another hunter was coming in - weird noise.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
