latest ducks unlimited episode
« on: September 14, 2011, 02:45:31 PM »
Did anybody catch the latest DU hunting show where they were hunting up in Snohomish at the hunt club (can't recall the name)? That club is nuts and I can only imagine how much a membership there costs. It made me a little sick because it is a bit of a glimpse at the reality of what hunting is becoming... a rich man's sport.

I have all the episodes tivoed, so I will have to check it out.  In many areas it became a rich mans sport years ago.  Go back east and there are a ton of clubs.  Base price for a crappy one is $2k and goes way up from there.
Cut em!

that was a cool episode...but in my opion just a few good friends that all invest into some land and make that their land only would be alot easier than paying some dumb price for a duck club, do all my hunting in grays harbor and never have any problems except running out of shells to quick
If you can't play with the big dogs then STAY on the porch.

I know some folks who belong to that club.....well hung wallets for real!  But all of them are self made fortunes, so I take my hat off to them.

Effective duck hunting these days takes $'s.  Whether you put that into developing a property as these guys did, or invest it in the kind of boat and equipment that takes you to the backwaters or big waters that the birds find shelter on.....it's all the same really.

Quality duck hunting for free or little effort is a thing of the past, i'm sorry to say.

I checked out the episode.  It was from Jan. 2011 at French Creek Hunt Club in Snohomish, WA.  Very nice place.  The have put a lot of money into the club.  I have hunted at a few spots like that minus the club.  The club puts that place over the top.  They have created a very nice duck spot.  It makes a huge difference when you plant several hundred acres in corn.  You can shift the flyway.  Area's competing with this location may notice a decrease in the number of ducks they see.  I have witnessed several clubs on the east side, one being near Royal City literally change the flyway pattern due to all the corn, flooded pond and constant running water, so nothing freezes over.  It's crazy with ducks.

So went to the ducks unlimited Seattle Banquet and the owner was there. Didnt get to talk to him, but there was a DU rep and he said $300K to join and $10K annual fee.  So its ultra exclusive only.

i really think that is why there are fewer ducks in the Yakima valley especially when December comes around and everything freezes up. There just isn't the amount of open water and feed for birds here like there is in the basin these days. Now give me a January thaw and all that goes out the window, and the birds flood back into the valley like crazy
