first run at jerky
« on: September 21, 2011, 08:24:28 PM »
Well went and bought myself a dehydrator for 70 bucks.  Soaked the neck meat in marinade for about 15 hours and just put the jerky strips in.  I will get up at midnight check it, and then every two hours until its time for work.  Hopefully it's done before I have to go to work. I am hoping that my first set of jerky will taste good, if not I know my dogs will enjoy it.  :chuckle:

Seth, it looks like it is going to turn out excellent.  Be sure to let us know when to come over to sample it...... :chuckle:  John

at 2 AM it was ready to go!  I let it air dry until my normal time of getting up at 5 AM an dhad a piece.  A little chewy but packed with flavor! Gave the dogs a piece as well, and now I have 3 certified stalkers :chuckle:

I have made alot in the dehydrator. Add a bit of liquid smoke next time and see what you think.

I would suggest the smoke as well.  You could also add some meat tenderizer to you marinade if you want to try to tender it up a little.

That is a nice looking dehydrator.
