I am so flusterd. I really want to go full mount rather then rug. I just keep getting prices of $500-$600 but they dont have example pictures to show me. Its hard to just hand over $600 without knowing what youre gonna get. Then theres $1000 quotes that have pictures and look amazing but then again it $1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I would have no problem spending this on an elk. But not so sure about a bobcat.

1000 $ is alot of money thats for sure but you will always have that bobcat, to me a bobcat is just as worthy as a elk or deer, i look at it this way if you can afford it then do it you will be happy you did when you get it back and maybe the taxi that you use will take payments so your not handn over that big chunk of money all at once, i can tell you this they make a cool mount especially when they are done right, ya just want to keep it out of reach of little kids cause they sure like to mess with a big kitty cat, my cousin took a plastic saw to the nose of one my dad had done years ago when we were little, yeah it didnt work out so good for my cousin  :chuckle:  :yike:

Okay, I have made my decision and i'm gonna get it done right. BUCKLUCKY is the man. Im going with the full wall mount of the cat descending on a rock ledge. Its my first bobcat and i dont want to be disapointed every time i look up at it. I am super excited to have bucklucky do the work.  I am getting it sealed on Saturday and then hopefully down to Charlies i will go.

Man that one post is a reason why I am always afraid to shoot a cat! Cats are very hard to mount 90% of the taxi's that I have seen try to mount a cat "mind you that do a good job on deer and elk" look like crap!

This one cost me $ 80. The taxidermist was just learning. He's in Colville.
He's in business now and is cheaper than anubody.

I killed this one three years ago I think? Anyway, Charlie did it for me. I supplied the juniper and finished the base. I get tons of compliments. Kind of a crappy pic, I'm sure Charlie has some better close ups. I killed this other cat last year. Still in the freezer. I need to do something with it, probably just have it tubed unless I get a wild hair and want a rug.  It'll go to Charlie too.

So having shot a bobcat recently I am curious, what makes cats so much harder to mount then other animals? From the taxidermists point of view......

I'm not a taxidermist, but IMO its ALL about the face. You don't get the face right, the rest of the cat can be world class, and it'll still look goofy.

I've seen some terrible bears as well.

I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

That Fox Pro is too deadly... Next time shoot it before calling it in to less than 5'. You're gonna get attacked! :chuckle:
We'll be dusting off the .204's here soon enough ;) We need to plan a multi day marathon predator extermination this winter :chuckle:

I understand that the face is the difficult part of the mount, but what makes it any different then another game animal mount? Is it because of the amount of hair and the length of it makes attaching the hide to the form more complex? I dont know if you have to add material to the form to get the hide to fill out against the form so the fur will be in a natural laying position. I have seen some terrible cat mounts before but never understood what made the face so difficult. Just curious.

I think if a taxidermist can't mount a Bobcat right, he's only after the money or shouldn't be in business. Anybody can see a real difference. Even my wife said it's Fugly !

I recommend Keepin It Real taxidermy out of Cle Elum.  I shot the hell out of mine with a 300 mag and he did a very good job fixing it for me.  He was the cheapest in the area too. PM me for details.
