Cam troubles
« on: October 16, 2011, 08:33:57 PM »
Obviously, I am new with trail cameras. I put out a ton of apples for deer and set up my trail cam facing them about 20 ft away. No sign of deer eating the apples, but the bears are. There is bear scat everywhere with apples in it. Every time I check the pile, the apples are gone. I have been putting the apples out for about three weeks and have checked my cam about six times. The only picture that I have been getting is about 5-50 blank pictures, and one picture every time of me checking the cam each time. The night pictures are all black. When I set it out in the back yard I get nice clear pictures of my black dog. Why am I not seeing a bear on my cam? I know that there has been multiple bears standing in front of it. Why are the night pictures all black? The camera is a Tasco 5 mp camera. Help!!! I will not be baiting that area any more because it is a long bike ride and the only sign that is there is a ton of bears and I even seen cougar scat  :bash:

It could just be that the flash doesn't have enough range. I have two Tasco trail cameras, but mine are the 3 mp models. If the flash is the same on yours, as it is on mine, they only have about a 10 foot range. I got lots of night pictures at first, of nothing. But now I'm careful to place the camera so that it is close to where I expect the animals to be. So maybe just try putting your apples closer to the camera.

So do you think that the bears that were eating the apples were only coming through at night  :dunno:
