Had my first buck stolen!
« on: October 22, 2011, 09:10:23 PM »
So today I went out, I was the first person at the gate; I got there extreamly early and didn't know if I should head in that early, so I waited a little while before heading in. While waiting a group of people with quads pulled in behind me. I wasn't too upset by this because I was going to hike far away from the road and I was by my self so it was it was kinda nice to have others close. Shortly after I started my hike in I noticed the group following me. I didn't pay much attention to them. Well after about a three mile hike I found my spot and hunkered in for the day. I sat there all day in the pissing rain and right when I was about to head to the car to warm up a bit a good sized spike came down the hill directly behind me, he almost ran into me and probably would have had I not moved to grab my riffle. He stopped and studied me for what felt like forever. I kinda thought he was going to rush me. Even as close as he was I didn't have what I thought was an ethical shot so I waited til he passed and gave me a shot. He turned broad side and I let her rip. I was so excited; my first buck ever, no tag soup for this rookie hunter. I watched as my buck ran from me so I could find him when he dropped. He stopped looked like he was about to drop when another shot rang out. What the F@#K! I yelled. The buck tore off for about another 100 yards. That is when I heard someone yell I hit him he is mine and saw someone running down the hill right above where I had been all morning. Turns out that other group followed me the entire way in and sat right above me the entire day. I asked the guy what he was doing he said he saw I was alone and figured I had scouted that area and knew where the deer were. I said ya and this is my buck. The guy looked perplexed, and said I hit him he is a "good sized two point". I said no he is a spike. So this guys group and I looked for the buck. They found him first, and sure enough he was a nice spike. When I got to the deer I noticed that he only had one entrance and one exit wound and they were right where I was aiming. The group start congradulating each other on a good hunt. I said what the hell this is my buck he is only shot once and you didn't even know he was a spike you thought he was a two point. This pissed off the guys group and they started getting hostile toward me. I was alone and about 3 miles in so I felt I had to give up MY buck. I didn't know what else to do so I just walked away. I feel as though I have been robbed twice not only did this whole group follow me into my pre-scouted hunting area but they took my first buck and food out of my daughters mouth. Every other experiance I have had with fellow hunters has been GREAT but with this I almost feel like I should give up. I put in all this work BY MY SELF and shot an animal that would have fed my daughter and I for a long time but was muscled out of it by a group of unethical hunters. I am very very angery and not sure if I am going to hit the woods tomorrow.

Give up the location. Maybe someone on here knows who hunts the area on quads and can help you out. I also would of called WDFW. Let them help you sort it out.

Sorry to hear about that. That really sucks. That kind of thing will eventually catch up to those guys, though.

No, I didn't get any plate numbers. Their trucks were still there when I left but I was seeing nothing but red and wanted out of there before something bad happened. I don't know just wasn't thinking about getting plate numbers, about half way home it donned on me that I should have. I do believe they will get whats coming to them in the long run though. They keep hunting like that and they will make the wrong person mad sooner or later.

After I calmed down I called my older brother who is a police officer to see what he thinks my next move should be and he said "nothing at this point, by now they have gutted and dragged the buck out and you didn't get plate info so WDFW wouldn't have anything to go off of as far as hunting them down".

I hate to say it for your first deer, but, some hunters are real a-holes when it comes to gettin' a deer. Elk hunters are even worse. Nothing you can do my friend. It's a lesson learned, plus you were alone.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

That is one reason why my son uses a 338 RUM with 250 grain match kings.  The deer pretty much drops in its tracks and there is no mistake the hole on the other side who let that energy loose.  His first buck was taken from him.

Sorry to say it, but had it been me, they would have had to use their ATV's to get out of the woods....  What pieces of crap!!  Multi tools do wonders on oil drain plugs if you don't want to be noticed right away.
