Bobcat mounts
«
on:
March 22, 2007, 01:04:55 PM »
I got my most recent bobcat sealed yesterday. I am looking at doing a full mount on him for practice. He, or I guess I should say she isn't that big and not that pretty, but would be fun to practice on. I'm thinking of the leaping in the air with a chukar right at its outstretched paw, and maybe another chukar flying up from underneath.

Thanks for the pic! Thats just about what I am after. I have a 55 gallon oak stand, but don't have that aquarium anymore. I was going to mount him in just about that pose, except a chukar right at his paw, belly towards the front flaring to get away, and maybe another out in front or underneath flying like the pheasant. Cool Mount. Any other pictures out there.

In my opinion cats are the hardest animal to taxi. You see very few that look alive or realistic but when you do they are some of the sweetest mounts to have. Lets see some pics when your done, Bone.

I agree with you. I have seen some real cheesey mounts from some real good taxidermists. It should be fun to try.

One thing I noticed on cats is that sometimes a live pic can look almost as goofy as a bad mount. Maybe the taxi's aren't that bad afterall?
I always wanted one jumping at a grouse, but after watching the bobcat watching me this weekend I think I might have one sitting and watching.

That cat of yours would have made an excellent mount. Though he might have made a pretty good rug too! You were about a month late on that one.

It might have "blown up" as I was shooting a .270 w/ 150 gr. Probably a small hole in the chest and a massive one through the back.
Yep, almost exactly a month too late.

You might think about switching to Barnes TSX bullets for those times when you're bear hunting and get a chance at a cat. I'd bet on a bobcat the TSX wouldn't even open up. I shoot 140's out of my 270.
Of course that's what I shot that one bear with, the one that I never found until a week later. (because I thought I missed)

Sure do, got two boxes for ya whenever you want them. All I want is the brass back if it's not too much trouble. (unless you have a use for it) I just don't want good 270 brass to go to waste.

Here is a kitty pose for ya. He is supposed to be staring up at a mouse on the stick above him but the mouse is all messed up, so I cut it out of the pic. I'll probably replace it with a grouse, squirrel or something. Cats are definately the hardest critter to get right! Most of them look bug eyed or like their ears are all dried out.
