Manastash Toad
« on: October 30, 2011, 02:44:54 PM »
I told myself that I would go big or go home empty with my Observatory any bull tag. Had a lot of good info given to me by other members of this site about the Umtanum. But that was just back up info in case my honey hole for the past 21 years didn't pan out. Didn't see a live elk for the first 5 days of my hunt. Helped elkcane's friend get his 4x5 bull out of a ravine on Tuesday. Then on Saturday morning with the all the general elk hunters hitting the woods, things started to look up. Saw a couple cows cross a ridge above me, the first elk I had seen in six days! Then about 20 minutes later, heard some rocks rolling, and out comes this great bull at 200 yards. He was still trotting when the 165 grain accubond from my 300 WSM went through both lungs. He ran about ten yards, and stopped broadside. The second bullet took out his heart. He walked about 3 more yards and rolled down the hill out of sight. Could hardly believe my eyes when I walked up on him.An 8x7 bull, with incredible mass! Big thanks to Jeff, Vance, Ben and Steve for helping me get that monster off the mountain! What a great hunt! Now I get to go back and help my son fill his cow tag!

Congrats on an awesome bull!  What did he green score?
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Sweet, I was over there the last three days.  I just brought my son home and I'm headed back.  Saw one 6x a 3x and a couple spikes taken out.  Guys are hittin it hard.  While I've seen lots of track, no visible spies for me yet.

Congrats, great bull!  Did you happen to notice a scab or slight wound to his left front leg?  I had a muzzleloader client nic a huge 7x8 that looks exactly like yours, just curious if it's the same bull.  Either way, congrats.

Just did a quick measure, came up with right around 350 points. I will definitely be getting this guy measured officially after the 60 day drying period.

Thanks everyone. A couple more shots from camp. I trimmed all the bloodshot meat & fat, and still ended up with 400 lbs of hanging meat at the butchers!  :rockin:
