Give Keen's a try.  I have a day hiking pair and love them so much I am getting a 6" pair of hikers for hunting.  They also have come out with work boots up to 7 or 8" I believe.  I have always had trouble with getting supportive boots for my feet but my search is over, I wear these all day and my dogs still feel great.  Several models offer waterproof protection and I have seen both steel and composite toes boots.

I got a pair of Keen Targhee II's a couple of months ago and so far they are the best light hiker ( about 1lb for a pair) I have ever tried and probably the best "shoe" I have ever worn, very comfortable and waterproof. I have a pair of Keen Summit County boots for colder weather that are also great although not as comfortable as the targhee's. My new boots are Asolo TPS 520 GV hiking boots, so far I am really liking them (still breaking them in), very comfortable already with a good agile feel to them, I was even able to drive my manual trans tacoma the first day no problem! That last is a real rarity for me, wearing a 13W (depending on manufacturer) I have a real tendency to push two pedals at once and normally have to turn my feet sideways to drive when wearing boots. Two downsides to the Asolo's are: 1. they weigh about four pounds! 2. they cost $275 + insoles ( I used the Superfeet coppers) for $50 = $355 out the door. The price sucks but if you have sore feet like me you get to the point where you would just about pay anything for a pair of boots that didn't have your feet hurtin' at the end of the day.

I just picked up a pair of Lacrosse Big country HD waterproof scent control 400gram insulation for $89.99 from Sportco in fife. they are the most comfortable boot i have had the pleasure of wearing in years especially for the money my budget was 150- or less so i feel i lucked out. I have set of rocky xtreme stalker light boots that were close to double the cost of the lacrosse and they tear the hell out of my feet and have sat in the closet for close to five years. If fife is to far south Outdoor emporium is their north end sister store.

after trying on 12 pairs of boots i think im screwed... the only ones i like were the keens and one pair of danner 3.0s or something... problem with the keens is they horrid and i have a feeling they would be a pain in the ass to clean. the danners   i tried a 13 on but they were to tight and they were out of stock of size 14... it seemed like all the 6" red wings/irish setters my calf's were to big to lace up tightly and they didnt stock georgia's in any wide sizes or anything over 13s...  god damn i felt like a woman havin all them boxes next to me lol hopefully ill be able to find something that fits this weekend!

I was a big Danner fan for years until I tried a pair of Meindl early last year.  I now have nothing but Meindl and all my Danner's are at the local Good Will store.  I feel these boot are way more comfortable and X 3 the quality of the Danners.

When I started looking for comfortable, waterproof walking/hiking/hunting boot I took my brothers recommendation and bought a Pair of Lowa Renegades GTX (Goretex). Last time I checked, about 3 weeks ago, you could get them in Portland for about $150 from Oregon Mountain Community or $180-$210 from REI depending on discounts. I bought them from REI because of their no questions asked, 100% guarantee, replacement or exchange; the guy that worked with me said if I didn't get at least 5 years out of the Vibram soles, they leak, or for what ever reason I'm not happy then bring them back!

They feel like slippers right out of the box and the next day I did a 4-5 mile hunt/hike in absolute comfort. They are only 6" boots, never thought I'd go that low but they will be great for early season and during wet grass down pours I'm going to wear my gators for higher waterproof protection. The toe doesn't have any protection and feels soft as compared to most hunting boots but I figured if they wear out I'll replace them, free.

I'd recommend you give them a try if the boot height isn't a show stopper for you.

    My favorite boot.  They are light, comfortable, and well made.  I can do 12+ miles a day and my feet are fine.  Never had a blister either.  They don't get all torn up and destroyed by rough terrain like the Danner Pronghorns do.

I am a Danner guy through and through.  I first had a pair of Pronghorns and liked them a lot.  When they wore out I upgraded to a pair of 10" Frontier GTX 600gram and love them for hunting.  I have to admit, I did a 15 mile hike with a lot of elevation gain in them and by the end of the day I was wanting a lighter weight boot.  Just my

After all the danners the army ever gave me inside of 6 months wear out I can't say I'm impressed. So far bellevilles have lasted really long. Shockingly... the big clunky rockies seem to do almost as well for me.

danners as well, but i would also buy a new pair of romeos, the real ones as in georgia boots, i cant believe how comfortable a new pair is and i buy them evey 2 years, and i work outside, not much on waterproof though, but they are pretty damn good if you dont wade in them
