WA Mossback 404 bull
« Reply #60 on: November 30, 2011, 07:58:54 AM »

Imagine 10 guys working full time across a large area to locate a certain bull and keep tabs on him. It's actually kind of sad. Lol

Actually what's really quite sad slim is ignorant, speculated, comments like this that keep these guys from joining sites and sharing pics and stories of their hunts. :twocents:

Well, considering I talked with two of the Mossback staff when they were in Lacey, what did I say that was ignorant or incorrect? I asked the guys how they consistently get their hunters the biggest bulls since I was curious. Was he lying? Or are you just butt-hurt that I think it's "sad." Am I not entitled  to my opinion? I never said it should be illegal or even that it was wrong. Did you miss the lol?

Go back and read my posts. I expressed my sincere congratulations to the hunter and even "stood up" for his ability to purchase the Governer's tag.

I think it may actually be people like you that keep people from joining and contributing to sites likes these. Nothing like stifling people's opinions and calling names. Get a life.

Looks like a hanford bull.  They probably trapped it and brought it to the blues, and put a tracking tag on it so the hunter could find it?

:yeah: No there was not any where near 10 at any point I saw them or other people I know saw them. By all accounts the crew and the tag holder seemed to be pretty good guys.

Look buddy. I think you are confused. I never said that this hunter had 10 Mossback guys scouting / helping on his hunt. I know nothing about this specific hunt. I was actually referring specifically to the Spider bull and Mossback's involvement with it. Are you going to say that there weren't multiple Mossback guys keeping track of that bull and locating him for their hunter? The guy I responded to asked a GENERAL question about the advantages of an outfit like Mossback and that's what I was referring to. It may not be the norm for them but they are famous (or infamous depending on how you look at it) for doing it and they have the manpower to do things like that if you pay them to. Is it clear now? None of this was directed at the guy who killed this bull or his hunt.

This is what was asked.

wondering what an outfit like mossback offers a hunter?  just more eyes?  i can't see them calling this bull in, if it was a recent kill, and locals will usually gladly put you on a great bull when you draw a tag.

724 WD was referring to this bull and this hunt specifically, to which you replied to his question. It very much looks like you were also referring to this hunt, resulting in my comment.

If you were referring to a different hunt and a different thread then perhaps it would be wise to clarify so as not to inadvertently mislead anyone that may be reading about this particular hunt. :dunno:

Either your reading comprehension is poor or you are just trying to be stubborn, but the main question he posed was a general one. That is obvious.

wondering what an outfit like mossback offers a hunter?  just more eyes?

When he says "a hunter," he means in general, what do they offer their clients or at least that's how it came across. Not specifically this guy in WA. Is it that hard to interpret? Maybe we read it differently. IDK.

:yeah:  i was wondering in general why a person of means would hire an outfit of guys he doesnt know rather than gather some buds and hit the woods until you find the bull you like.  i get that after shelling out that much money one might be compelled to shoot the biggest bull possible, but if inches are all you're after, why not hit the elk farms?  maybe it's just me that cherishes time spent afield with family and friends over inches of bone you can't (or at least shouldn't  :chuckle: ) eat.

but who knows, maybe my opinion would change if i bought a Gov tag... anyone wanna spot me?   :lol4:  i can't make an informed decision until i've tried both sides!   :chuckle: :chuckle:

Congrats Kevin you earned that toad, you put some miles on yourself looking for him. I enjoyed helping you and getting to know you and John and Doyle. And for Mossback i herd tons of negative rumors
on how they hunt and run their outfitt and its a top notch crew and some of the nicest guys you could ever meet or talk to. Maybe just maybe we can find the bull next year that we have the sheds off of the last two years. Again
I had a blast helping out and enjoyed every moment i was over there. Congrats to Mossback on another 400 under their belt lol haters can hate but it wont make you a better hunter thats for sure

I don't have anything against this guy or the way he got it done, though it's not at all the way I would have done it.

If I had 30k laying around (just a guess what it cost him, maybe more, maybe less?) I know I wouldn't spend it all on one tag.  I'd take all of October and November off and buy landowner tags in states where the tags are good for the entire units and go get it done on public land DIY in great units.  Might not be blasting 400" bulls, or 200" bucks on all the tags, but I'd be dropping 340"+ bulls and 180-190" bucks for two months and that would be much more of a blast for me!

I talked to a game warden in pomeroy who said that the guy who had the governors tag had him and some other guys waiting on a big bull to come off the private. And the warden had talked to them a couple times.

I don't know about this particular hunt but, I know for a fact that Mossback has in the passed for some Governor and auction tags waived their fees to be a part of filming and putting their name on the pictures.
Most Rich people had to work their asses of for their money too. I don't understand why people are so down on someone that gives so much for the states wildlife.

Not that it isn't a nice bull, its a great bull, I'm just not a fan of the guys that buy their trophys. No offense. Everyone has their opinions and if that's how they like hunting then good for them. But if it were me I'd feel a whole lot better earning that bull and hunting with friends and family rather then just writing a check. I don't agree with the gov tag. It just gives the rich guy a quick chance to shoot a big bull when the rest if us have to draw. Sure it gives fish and game money but where does it go? And no matter how much we give them they keep demanding more and more. Gov tags, more raffles, more seasons, and to top it off more wolves that they seem to love so much.  It truely is amazing that we still have game to hunt in this state. With all the seasons, special hunts, poachers, predators, and Indians you'd think they'd all be killed. Contests on the bull Kevin.
