Kill shot arrows. What do you do with them?
« on: November 30, 2011, 07:29:54 PM »
Are they special to you and you take them out of the quiver and hold on to them?  Do you keep just the broadhead or just the arrow?  Do you wipe them off and put them back into the quiver?  What do you do with your kill shot arrows?

Only one I have had so far was completely destroyed.  Hit a rib and far shoulder so broad head blades where bent.  Deer ran when hit and snapped the shaft in half,  since the arrow only half exited after trying to punch through all that bone. It went in the trash.

Haven't had a whole arrow left as the result of a killshot on an elk.  The one for my first deer i just replaced the broadhead and used it on my second deer, I then replaced the blades in the hopes of a third one this fall but ended up using the rifle (Sask).

If the fletching isn't messed up I just wipe it off, replace the broadhead (or blades) and put it back in the quiver.

If it is messed up I wipe it off, take it home, re-fletch, replace the broadhead (or blades) and put it back in the quiver.

If it's broken I just throw it away.

I have the antlers and/or pictures for memories...I saved the first couple but they just sat in the garage until I eventually cleaned them up and used them.  It seemed like it would be cool to save them but I didn't do anything with them.

Just put in the last layer of resin, and it should be ready in the morning. Going to take the finished product to a friends that has a laser etcher   This year was my first archery hunt, and first deer taken with a bow.  The broadhead was ruined by hitting the spine, and being it was the trash or something like this, I chose to make a kick a#$ paper weight! Sorry if I thread jacked :sry:

Yeah no probs, something about cold air and darkness does not go well with my flash.  I have to mix in the garage due to the fumes, but afterwards I bring the dish into the house to dry faster.

Is the resin clear or tinted brown like it looks in the pic?

its very brown, but seems to clear up as it dries.  Not sure what the finished color will be :dunno:  When I wake up in the morning I will know for sure

Have them all sitting in the gun room - bloody and just the way I found them!  Put two nails in the wall from two shell casings when I shot my first deer and hung the cases on them at an angle.  The arrows all rest on them.
