Killed 2 bucks, 1 cougar, and 2 bulls all in one year and with one arrow and same broadhead :chuckle:. Last bull took his revenge though and broke my lucky arrow :'(
USE THEM TILL THEY BREAK!!!

On carbon, how do you guys inspect them for the really tiny cracks that occur when they impact something hard like bone? I rarely use and arrow again after it's gone through an animal. The thought of having one break down during release and part of it going through my hand is a deterrent for me.  :dunno:

I flex my arrows back and forth and look for cracks and listen for them as well. I do that after target practice too.

If the arrow doesn't break re-use it, however the same broadhead has killed all of my animals, I figure once the broadhead has tasted blood it just wants more.  :chuckle:

Bend them and roll between your fingers while they're bent in a fairly substantial arc.  You'll hear a popping and creaking  sound if there is a crack.  There will be no doubt about a cracked one.

A for the arrow that kills an animal: I clean them off and reuse them.  I've got the one from my buck this year in my avatar that I'm contemplating building into the furniture/pedestal for the mount that Charlie is working on.  My thoughts are to keep hunting with the actual arrow and put a substitution (that isn't flying well due to spine weight) into the mount.  That way I get to keep shooting a good one and get rid of one that isn't worth much.

I wash them with soap and water and replace the blades and re-use, if I can find them.  I shot a bull, bear and buck all with the same arrow one year then used the arrow the whole next year for 3d shoots.  First bear I shot with the next fall I blew through and hit a tree and the bear snapped it!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

its very brown, but seems to clear up as it dries.  Not sure what the finished color will be :dunno:  When I wake up in the morning I will know for sure

There's a crystal clear resin designed for this type of thing that you can get at Michael's craft store.  It is a bit spendy but is really nice and easy.

Unless it was a huge trophy bull, if the arrow and broad head are still good I will use it to kill another one.

I save them (or the pieces of them), write the date, species and GMU on them, and then I give them a place on a shelf, or I use hose clips to mount them on a plaque along with a success photo, or directly on the wall beside the skull.

I usually don't wash them off, but this isn't advisable with a shot through the pauch because of the science project you'd then have hanging on the wall.  :yike:
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. All of them are in storage the way I found them after the shot. I put the date and the number of points/elk or deer on the fletching.

SAve tHEM !! I only have a couple  :chuckle:

I'm suprised that with the type of broadheads you use they don't just bounce off the animal.   :chuckle:

I keep the arrow until it breaks.

My first bowkill was this year, and the arrow ended up in three pieces. I found two of them and they are hanging on the wall.

Mine are on the racks of the animals they killed. Blood and all.  One is broken, so I put a piece of cable in it and put the pieces together - looks whole again, but with a 45 deg turn in it where it broke ( it was sheared between a shoulder blade and a rib when the bull took off).

May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

I whipe off the blood, run my broadhead down a stone and use it again next year.
